10 Best Places to Try Italian Tiramisu in Rome

My first ever trip to Rome was with a close friend of mine who happens to be a chef. She marveled over the Italian cuisine, and if we ate somewhere with tiramisu on the menu she would order it every time.

Even if she only managed two bites of it, she needed to try each and every one so that she will one day master the recipe herself. This was great for me, because I must have tasted well over twenty traditional tiramisus within my first two weeks of being in Italy.

The following ten are a few that got my nod of approval along the way…

1. Pompi Tiramisù in Rome

Everyone who has been to Rome in the past will tell you you must go to Pompi, and for good reason.

Pompi is a little tiramisu bakery in the north of Trevi. They do a variety of traditional tiramisus in a range of flavors; everything from original to hazelnut and even banana (which is mind blowing, for the record).

This is a grab-and-go treat shop. The tiramisu comes in a little box with a spoon and you can eat it on the go. They also do excellent coffee and gelato.

2. Grazia & Graziella in Rome

This is another spot that excited travelers love to push onto people when they hear they will be spending time in Rome. This is an authentic Romance eatery with a notorious reputation on the streets of the Trastevere.

You’ll end the most outer worldly dining experience with some of the best homemade tiramisu that this city has to offer.

There is usually always a line out of the door here; you’ll be treated to complimentary Prosecco while you wait.

3. Ristorante Rifugio Romano in Rome

My chef friend was interested in sampling well-made vegan pizza when in Rome, and so we landed up at Ristorante Rifugio Romano in the city north.

Naturally, we followed the very impressive pizzas with their vegan tiramisu. Earth shattering, mind blowing, award deserving; that’s as plainly as I can put it.

If I wasn’t initially aware that it contained no actual dairy I would have thought there to have been a mistake. How they managed to make such realistic mascarpone cheese without any animal products is stilly beyond me. I encourage everyone to go and enjoy this mastery.

4. Tiramisú Trastevere in Rome

This next spot is the best place to be after a very long and tiring guided walking tour through the ancient side of Rome’s city. It’s in the Trastevere, on the left bank.

This is a tiramisu shop, and that is that. They prepare your order right in front of you and you’ll be able to make customized choices about flavors and toppings. It’s like a build-your-own tiramisu factory.

So interesting to see the process take place, and so wonderful to taste the final product. Highly recommend the pistachio flavor!

5. Mr. 100 Tiramisù in Rome

Another eatery solely dedicated to the fine art of tiramisu making. Here they have over 100 variants for you to choose from. Of course I panicked and just went for the traditional, and I’m very glad I did.

The shop also offer cheese and meat boards for snacking over Italian wine. It’s a trendy little spot with a strong wholesome feel to it.

6. ZUM Roma in Rome

This little cake shop is another spot focusing solely on perfecting the craft of tiramisu making. Their in house chef is somewhat a master at this point, and there are always new and creative renditions finding their way onto the menu.

If you’re feeling really adventurous try their tiramisu cookie sandwich!

Pasta Imperiale was one of my top spots for pasta while in Rome. The menu is very simple, and very cheap; all made extremely quickly while you wait and suitable for a take away meal after a guided walking tour.

The only dessert that they offer is tiramisu. It’s homemade, it’s delicious and it’s not to be missed!

If pizza and tiramisu is your preferred meal combination, then I must recommend going back into the Trastevere for Ristorante Sette Oche.

An ambient and traditional space where focus is placed on food quality and not the exploitation of tourists. This is one of the most affordable authentic Italian meals you’ll have while in Rome.

10. Two Sizes in Rome

Two Sizes is the well known shop in Monti where the tiramisu comes in… you guessed it, two sizes!

A small or a large will be the only decision you have to make in this tiramisu shop. They are outstanding in taste, and some of the most Instagram worthy dishes in town.

Incase it wasn’t obvious, you’ll want to opt for the large.
