One of the biggest delights of Sighisoara is simply walking the cobblestoned old town streets. With its pastel-colored houses and low-key vibe.

From the old town center, you can take the covered wooden staircase which links the lower and upper parts of the citadel.

Above it are four spires that are symbolic of the city’s autonomy through a variety of eras.

You can enter the Clock Tower, but be sure to put your camera away until you reach the top.

The tower shimmers in low-hanging light, reflecting the sun’s rays against the cobblestone streets with its ancient windows ablaze like a fiery dragon.

One part of Sighisoara you’ll never tire of is Citadel Square. This prismatic space is lined by pastel-hued homes, stalls selling trinkets, and marvelous views of ancient buildings.

It’s a lively place to enjoy a morning coffee or an evening meal. Personally, it’s where I’d head for an afternoon beer after a hot and sweaty day of exploring.

Also known as Piata Cetatii, Citadel Square baths in sunlight on cloudless days. The red, blue, yellow, and off-green facades create a square that’s filled with cobblestones.

5. The astonishing Casa Vlad Dracul home to the Dracula family visitors love the famous home

Visitors to the famous home will be able to walk into the very room where Vlad the Impaler took his first breath.

The home itself was owned by his father, Dracul, whose name translated to the Dragon with Dracula, the Son of the Dragon.

From Bucharest, take the A3 to Brasov, then the E60 to Sighisoara. If you are coming from Timisoara, take the A1.
