Katara is a cultural village in Doha, Qatar and is situated on the eastern coast between West Bay and the pearl. Several Qatari organizations have their offices located in Katara such as Qatar Fine Arts, Qatari Society for Engineers, Qatar Photographic Society, Visual Art Centre, Childhood Cultural Centre, Qatar Music Academy and Theatre Society.

Katara has opened several facilities within its premises such as the amphitheatre, an opera house, a multi-purpose conference hall, a multi-purpose cinema, a beach, a conference hall and a souq.

3. Katara Management Organizes Fath Al Kheir Journey

Fath Al Kheir journey is one of the events organized by Katara management and the aim is to promote Qatar’s maritime heritage. The first voyage took place from November 22 to 18 December 2013 in the Persian Gulf, (the Mediterranean Sea in Western Asia. The body of water is an extension of the Indian Ocean located between Iran and the Arabian Peninsula).

The second voyage was launched on October,6,2015. The ship was crewed by 40 Qataris in traditional attire and sailed around the Arabian Sea, with the key destinations being Oman and India.

4. Several Events are Hosted in Katara

Within the Katara Cultural Village, several events are hosted. Some of the events that have been hosted here are Katara Art Forum, Aida and the 2021 FIFA Arab Cup Draw. Aida an event featuring Giuseppe Verdi’s classic opera Aida was hosted in October 2012, in Karata’s amphitheatre.           

Katara Art Forum is another event which was hosted in Katara in 2014. It was a two-day discussion forum for the arts inaugurated in Katara. It is an event that takes place yearly and the forum features international and local researchers who deliver speeches on topics such as the history of Arab art and Arab art groups.

2021 FIFA Arab Cup Draw, the 10th edition of the Arab Cup, took place on April 27, 2021, at the Karata’s opera house.

Some of these landmarks inside the Katara with amazing architecture are like the Amphitheater of Katara which was opened on December 11, 2011. The amphitheatre is inspired by Greek Architecture and sends you back to the Roman era when such theatres were used for public gatherings and events. The murals and installations at Cultural Village add a significant artistic touch to the beauty of the village. Katara village is a place for art lovers and there are three main installations that have made it a village for art lovers.

The following is a brief description of the three installations and murals. First, the Force of Nature here is designed by Lorenzo Quinn and he is presenting the vision of the force of nature. It is made of stainless steel and bronze and the sculpture presents an unyielding installation that depicts the strength and determination of a human.

Secondly, the Oryx Going Ahead is a masterpiece by Martin Ron. It is an 11-meter-tall installation that has the national wild Oryx, with the Map of Qatar on its head. Using 3D art, making the oryx, and it protruding out of the wall is what makes it quite a popular piece of art.

Lastly, Gandhi’s three monkeys by Indian Artist Subodh Gupta is the most popular in the place and was installed in Katara in 2008. The installation was inspired by the three monkeys of Gandhi and it represents the metaphor of life similar to the original three monkeys of Gandhi, Speak no evil, see no evil, and talk no evil.
