Tinuy-an Falls is a multi-tiered waterfall in Bislig, Surigao del Sur on the southern island of Mindanao Philippines.

The falls measure 95 meters wide and 55 meters tall. Tinuy-an Falls cascades over three tiers with the second being the largest and most impressive.

Bislig is a city known as the Booming City by the Bay. The waterfall itself has been featured in various international travel magazines and TV shows.

The place is very good, it’s touted as Niagara Falls in the Philippines. Tinuy-an Falls is a co-management effort between the tourism office of Bislig and the Manobo Tribal Council.

Many people describe Tinuy-an Falls as the Little Niagara Falls of the Philippines because of its curtain of water cascading down a four-tier drop.

Unlike other waterfalls, Tinuy-an has natural pools where one can take a plunge. The natural pool of the second waterfall is the tallest of the three layers.

It is wide enough to accommodate bamboo rafts to take guests closer to the falls where the waters drop.

The area is home to ninety-one species of animals consisting of birds, mammals, amphibians, reptiles, freshwater fish, and crustaceans.

144 species of flora, 33 of which belong to species considered to be nearing extinction. In 2018, the falls were proclaimed as one of the three protected areas in the Caraga region.

Major airlines have direct daily flights from Cebu and Manila going to Surigao City, Butuan City, and Davao City.

Inter-island vessels like the Super ferry and Sulpicio Lines serve the Manila Butuan or Cebu Butuan routes on regular schedules with Nasipit Port as a transit point.

Aircon vans are available at the port area or take a jeepney to the city terminal for the regular bus trips going to Mangagoy in Bislig City.

Ride in a bus bound for Mangagoy five-hour travel. In Mangagoy, go to the tricycle habal habal terminal in the market there you can hire a habal habal for P300 to 400 back and forth

It is found between the boundaries of the Barangays of Talisay and Cambatong. Hinatuan Bay which is the habitat of various species of turtles is located at its mouth.

Tinuy-an Falls is considered the widest waterfall in the Philippines because of its 95 meters width and 55 meters plunge.

The stunning waters fall in three levels, the fourth being hidden in the view. This is the reason why it is called a multi-tiered waterfall.

The second tier is the tallest and widest of the three. This is where most of the visitors swim, explore, and take some stunning photos.

For visitors who really want to explore the area, they tend to go to the third level. There is a steep trail going there for interested visitors.

10. The famous name Tinyu-an comes from the Cebuano word Tinuyo-an

The name Tinuy-an comes from the Cebuano word Tinuyo-an, which translates as an intentional act or performance to attain an objective or goal.

Legend says the Magdiwata Mountain settlers were enslaved by cruel masters coming from the hinterlands of Agusan. They were mistreated and forced to do hard manual labor.

Tired of the maltreatment, the brave natives gathered among themselves and created a plan to end the cruelty.

One day rowing the bamboo raft boarded by their masters the slaves jumped doff and intentionally shoved the raft into the cliff killing the vicious masters.

From then on, the high falling waters are called Tinuy-an Falls to commemorate the bravery of the heroic natives.
