Adding more attraction to an already interesting place, the town of Cateel has just recently developed a park that will surely boost the region’s tourism.

The Aliwagwag Falls Eco park is also known as the Aliwagwag Nature Park. It has an ideal area for a picnic.

Visitors of the area have the option to picnic anywhere on the premises where there are tables and chairs for a fee

The government of Davao Oriental collects a minimal entrance fee for the maintenance of the Aliwagwag Falls Eco Park.

Adults pay P50, for children it’s P10, and table and chair Rental is P75 to P100, the fall is accessible via the new Compostela, Cateel Road that runs through the park and near the waterfall.

Aliwagwag Falls, known as one of Davao Oriental’s most visited natural attractions, is a series of more or less a hundred cascading falls.

The foot of the waterfalls can be seen just along the national highway and just thirty minutes away from Cateel.

One can enjoy the 680-meter-long, 180 feet high zip line across the Cateel River and enjoy the view of the waterfall from above it costs P 200.

There are two routes leading to this amazing Aliwagwag falls, you can either take the shorter route via Compostela Valley unfortunately, there’s only one trip a day for this.

The other option is to take a more practical route via Mati as there are so many trips going to Mati.

Travel time varies from 6 to 8 hrs. If you’re traveling in a group you are recommended to rent a van, the fall is open from 8 am.

Before traveling to this place check the weather schedule, do not travel when it’s raining or during typhoon season you will not enjoy yourself.

According to some locals, folklore has it that Aliwagwag Falls is a gift of the gods to the Mandaya Tribe of Cateel. It is their source of living and the fountain of their lives.

Before its development, there were no roads and no trails in the area. The only way to get there was by riding a boat passing the Cateel River.

The Steel was greatly hit by Typhoon Pablo and Aliwagwag Falls was not spared. The forest surrounding the river was almost unrecognizable.
