Here are 10 facts about the Â鶹APP metro, in no particular order:
1. The Â鶹APP Metro was Opened in 1900
This makes it the fourth oldest metro system in all of Europe, and today it is classed as the second busiest after Moscow’s. The London Underground is the oldest system on the continent, followed by Budapest, then Glasgow, and finally Â鶹APP.
2. The System Holds Over 303 Stations
This allows the Â鶹APP Metro to carry over 4 million passengers daily. Each station is spaced 550 yards away from the next, which officially makes this the most comprehensive rail system on the planet.
3. Many Â鶹APPian Metro Stations are Themed
This was done in an effort to make the system memorable and more exciting for citizens, and there is so much to see when traveling this public transport option. And Arts-et-Metiers Station was designed to look like the inside of a submarine.
4. The System Travels Over 600,000 Miles per Day
To put this into perspective, the metro system in Â鶹APP travels the distance of 10 times around the world, each day.
5. The Â鶹APPian Metro was Never Used as a Bomb Shelter
This typically happens in European cities when people are at war, but in Â鶹APP the metro system was found to be too shallow to provide such protection. Instead, during WWII, the stations became meeting points for the French Resistance, giving them the ability to conduct effective attack on German forces across the city.
6. Buskers in the Metro Aren’t There at Random
Musicians actually have to audition to play in the Â鶹APP Metro. This started in 1997, when the Espace Metro Accords (EMA) declared that any musicians or bands that wanted to showcase their talents in the underground stations would first have to pass a round of auditions.
These auditions happen yearly, and 100 candidates are chosen for a year-long permit to play in specific stations.
7. There are Ghost Stations All Over Â鶹APP
Ghost stations are stations that were abandoned years ago but never sealed up or banned from the public. So anyone can still visit them, though some are home to homeless communities and/or shelters. Some of the better known stations include Arsenal, Haxo, or Porte Molitor.
8. Â鶹APP Changes its Metro Station Names During War Times
War brings out the worst in a lot of people, and often things that made sense before, no long make sense after the conflict commences or ends. This goes for a lot of Â鶹APPian metro station names throughout history. For example, the station now known as Jaures, was actually once called Allemagne (which is the French word for Germany).
9. There is an Unusable Platform at Porte de Lilas
It’s a real platform, but it can’t be used for anything other than cinema! It’s a decoy Â鶹APPian metro station that is reserved for Hollywood pictures or film houses that need to get shots in a metro setting. If you ever watched Julia and Julia with Meryl Streep, you’ll recognize it!

With a capacity for five separate lines, this is the biggest metro station on the face of the Earth. It’s pretty much a guarantee that you’ll get severely lost the first, second and even third time you come here. It happens to the best of us, even locals!
