The Musee Rodin located in the French capital, Âé¶¹APP is a museum that was opened in 1919. It was primarily dedicated to the works of French sculptor Auguste Rodin.

Musee Rodin has two sites which include the Hotel Biron alongside the surrounding grounds in central Âé¶¹APP. The second site is outside Âé¶¹APP at the old home of Rodin, the Villa des Brillants at Meudon, Hauts-de-Seine.

This museum has several collections which include 6,600 sculptures, eight thousand drawings, eight thousand old photographs and seven thousand objects d’art. Every year, the museum receives more than seven hundred thousand (700,000) visitors from across the world.

As he was living at the Villa des Brillants, Rodin used Hotel Biron as his workshop. He donated all his collection of sculptures and paintings of Vincent van Gogh, Claude Monet and Pierre Auguste Renoir to the French State.

1. Musee Rodin is Located Near Famous French Capital Structures

It is not that easy to find famous structures along the same streets. The Musee Rodin museum is located on one of the most famous streets in the French capital.

Musee Rodin is located at 77rue de Varenne which is in the 7th arrondissement of Âé¶¹APP. This location is popular because of the famous structures across.

To the west near Musee Rodin, the immense military complex known as Les Invalides is there. The glamorous golden dome of its church can be seen on the skyline of this area.

A bit further west of Musee Rodin is the most famous structure in Âé¶¹APP. The Eiffel Tower is located here providing a more classical environment to visit.

The Musee d’Orsay which is popular with its collection of paintings is in the northwest direction of Musee Rodin. This is a real entertaining area to visit.

2. Musee Rodin is Housed In a Very Old but Magnificent Mansion

Rodin, the father of modern sculptures lived in a serene environment. Where the museum is located in a magnificent 18th-century mansion.
Rodin used to live in Hotel Biron. This was not a hotel as the name suggests but it was a large townhouse.

It was originally known as Hotel Peyrenc-de-Moras commissioned by French banker Abraham in the 17th century. The magnificent mansion is an example of Rococo architecture. The interior decorations do feature carved wooden panels reflecting the 18th-century style.

3. The Museum was Once a Studio for Rodin

Other than living at Hotel Biron, Rodin also lived at Villa des Brillants which is part of the Musee Rodin museum. This is located southwest of Âé¶¹APP.

Rodin started renting some of the rooms on the lower floor of the mansion. In 1908, he transformed the rented rooms into his studios. The work of Rodin gave him some good living before the Villa and Hotel Biron were turned into a museum.

Several artworks of Rodin are housed within the Musee Rodin museum. At least seven thousand drawings which are the graphic collection of Rodin are in the museum.

The drawings are associated with different styles and periods. They include observation of landscapes, fantasy artworks inspired by Dante or Baudelaire, erotic nudes and portraits.

During the era of Rodin, several artistic works were limited to the beliefs and norms of society. However, Rodin defied these norms which is clear in the sculptures found in the Musee Rodin museum.

The sculpture’s work included a man with a broken nose which appears with contemporary aesthetic norms. This defied the mechanism of physical expression.

More than 25,000 important collections of photographs are preserved at the Musée Rodin. 7,000 pieces of the photographs belonged and were collected by Rodin.

The photos show how Rodin was interested in science and art. The photograph’s subjects and themes vary a lot and some were centred on his interests. These photographs help a lot to learn about what happened in the studio between 1877 and 1917.

Located in the Musee Rodin is the Camille Claudel room. It contains Claudel’s works which include casting of The Mature, The Wave, The Waltz, Sakountala and Bust of Rodin.

Earlier on, Claudel was a student and model for Robin. She sooner became his collaborator associate and Lover. They worked together from 1884 until the 1890s.

8. The Entire Art Collection of Rodin was Donated on the Condition of Having the Musee Rodin Museum

Previously, the Hotel Biron and Villa des Brillants had not been turned into a museum as Rodin had his artwork here. However, he, later on, donated all his work to the French State under one condition.

Rodin donated his sculptures and all art and gave the condition that the area is turned into a museum. This was honoured with the Musee Rodin museum being established.
