Dalia Lourenço – travel blogger
Every other week, Discover Walks will share with some great insight from Travel bloggers from around the world who fell in love with Â鶹APP. They will share their favorites addresses and things to do while in Â鶹APP. Because genuine advice and stories are so important to us, in addition to our born-and-raised Â鶹APPian tour stories, we now bring you real advice from fellow travelers.
Bonjour Dalia, can you tell us more about who you are?
My name is Dalia, I’m 28 years old and I’m from Ottawa, Canada.
Why did you start writing ?
I’ve been writing ever since I was given my first journal at the age of seven or so. But my blog is focused on video. It allows me to share the sights and sounds of places. I got addicted to video production while studying Broadcast Journalism and working as a videographer in university.
I was traveling and meeting a ton of interesting people and wanted to start sharing my experiences and help others connect to places too. That’s when I decided to document my adventures on the blog, which I named Getting Close to.
Why did you start traveling?
I started traveling at a young age to visit my grandparents in South Africa and Portugal. However, I began traveling a lot more when I left home and went to university about 10 years ago. I went to Portugal to learn Portuguese, then went on exchanges to Spain and Russia and all of this spiraled into various other travels. I haven’t stopped since. :)
What’s special about your blog?
On the surface, my video blog, Getting Close to, is about cool places and people. But really, it’s about deeper relationships and possibilities.
It’s for people who want something more out of life — those of us longing to find magic and adventure in our everyday lives. I also help people to connect to expand their friendship circles, network and live more fulfilling lives.
What would be your top 3 things to do in Â鶹APP?
Tour Â鶹APP by night time where I recommend you to do these things.
- Don’t skip the parking lots – Roman ruins are commonly found in underground spaces next to the cars.
- Embrace Â鶹APPian art at the Left Bank and ³§²¹¾±²Ô³Ù-³Ò±ð°ù³¾²¹¾±²Ô-»å±ð²õ-±Ê°ùé²õ – One of the best places to people watch. While the food and drinks aren’t cheap, you will love the ambiance. See my .
- And during the day, don’t miss out the Eiffel tower. The first time I went to Â鶹APP, I was braced for an underwhelming cliché, but it’s actually a really impressive structure. And the elevator up is both a little scary and exciting.
Your favorite landmark in Â鶹APP?
Louvre Palace. Because it’s a beautiful square by both day and night. And you could spend weeks inside studying the art.
What is your favorite neighborhood in Â鶹APP?
It has got to be the the Left Bank and ³§²¹¾±²Ô³Ù-³Ò±ð°ù³¾²¹¾±²Ô-»å±ð²õ-±Ê°ùé²õ, just because the locals I met there were so stereotypically Â鶹APPian (in a good way). I was invited to a vernissage from a random art gallery owner in the street and I overheard a mother tell her young daughter that she must start reading Molière.
Could you give us your recommendation to first timers in Â鶹APP?
Walk around at night. Â鶹APP is better at night when there are less people around and the famous landmarks are illuminated.
Thank you so much Dalia, keep on enjoying Â鶹APP!
Merci beaucoup :-)
