Charles Boyer who was born on 28th August 1899 was a French-American actor who appeared in more than 80 films between 1920 and 1976. After receiving an education in drama, Boyer started on the stage, but he found his success in American films during the 1930s.

1.He was born in Figeac, France and received his education in the schools and lyceum of Figeac
Charles Boyer was born in Figeac, France, to Maurice and Luise Boyer. Maurice worked as a merchant in the small town, owning a shop that sold various household and agricultural supplies.The family was not that rich but they strived to make ends meet and we’re capable of taking young Charles and his siblings to school.
Young Charles received his education in the schools and lyceum of Figeac, where he was described as a good, sociable student who gradually became intrigued by film and theater. He performed real well in his studies and was always praised by his teachers for his good performance and behavior.
2.Charles entertained soldiers with comedy skits during World war 1
While at school, Charles played sports, recited poems, and participated in several plays. This enabled him to entertain soldiers during world war one and throughout the course of World War I, Charles continued to act by entertaining soldiers with comedic skits in addition to completing the usual duties of a hospital orderly.
However his mother did not want him to be an actor and dreamed of him one day becoming a priest, lawyer, or educator, but Charles’ experiences with entertaining soldiers solidified his goal of becoming an actor. He could end up becoming one of the most renowned actors of that time and completed his dream.
3.His studies were interrupted by a mandatory military service
His love for drama led him to join Sorbonne where he worked on a degree in philosophy but his studies were interrupted by a mandatory eighteen months of military service.After the service he could not go back to Sorbonne so he decided to enroll at the Âé¶¹APP Conservatory to complete his education and study acting formally.
It was at this time and thanks to his ability to memorize lines quickly, he was able to replace a leading actor in a nearby stage production and received substantial praise from critics.This could be his start in acting after which he became a star overnight after moving to the USA.
4.Charles also made several appearances on radio and television
While in America Charles also made several guest appearances on radio and television. Carrying out numerous roles in these formats and though he was successful at every role he played, he preferred to study characters that he portrayed in order to perfect his character development.

5.He married British actress, Patricia Paterson whom he met at a dinner party
Charles married British actress Patricia Paterson whom he met at a dinner party In 1934.He attended a dinner party with some friends and it turned out to be a hood omen for him as he met later to be wife Patricia Paterson.They fell on love and were quickly engaged and married, and the marriage lasted until her passing in 1978.
It took the two weeks of courtship and a a total of three months to finish their marriage.They could later move from Hollywood to Paradise Valley, Arizona. The marriage lasted 44 years until her death. The couple were blessed with a son, Michael Charles Boyer, who was born in 1943.
6.He received nominations for awards in his career
Chalses Boyer received several nominations for awards for his career and though he never won an Oscar, he was nominated for the Best Actor four times. He received nominations for his role in Conquest in 1937, Algiers in 1938, Gaslight 1944 and Fanny 1961. He also won a nominations for the Laurel Awards for Top Male Dramatic Performance.
Charles was also nominated for the Golden Globe as Best Actor for the 1952 film The Happy Time; and also nominated for the Emmy for Best Continuing Performance by an Actor in a Dramatic Series for his work in Four Star Playhouse (1952–1956), though he never personally won those awards.
7.Charles was also inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame
Charles was also inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame with two stars in 1960, one with a motion pictures star and another with a television star. Both stars are located at 6300 Hollywood Boulevard, he is among the most recognized people who have been inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The Hollywood Walk of fame has a certain design of being nominated and inducted into it, for example each year an average of 200 nominations are submitted to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce Walk of Fame selection committee. Charles who had only child in his life lost his son when the boy committed suicide at age 21 after he had separated from his long time girlfriend.His beautiful wife could follow their son only 13 years later from cancer and left only Charles to wallow in pain.
He however on On 26 August 1978 took an overdose of Seconal while a a friend’s home Scottsdale, Arizona and though, he was rushed to the hospital, he finally lost his life two days after the death if wife and two days before his 79th birthday. He was interred in Holy Cross Cemetery, Culver City, California, beside his wife and son.
