Top 10 Interesting Facts About Wazir Mansion
Built during 1860-1870, Wazir Mansion is officially known as the Quaid-e-Azam birthplace museum. It is a former family home in the Kharadar district of Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan, which is considered the birthplace of Pakistan founder Muhammad Ali Jinnah; one of the characters greatly admired not just by the people of Pakistan but internationally.
It was built by architect H Sohak in the 18th century using stone masonry in lime and jute mortar to suit the volatile weather of Karachi. It has three floors and was owned by the government of Pakistan before 2011 and the government of Sindh since 2011.
Wazir Mansion is a national treasure and a source of inspiration to the citizens of Pakistan.

1.It Is The Birthplace Of Quaid-e-Azam, Founder of Pakistan
On the 25th of December 1876, the founder of Pakistan was born in the Wazir Mansion. Once his birthplace was misunderstood, but the information was later disclosed by his sister Fatima Jinnah in the book My Brother written in the 1960s.
His parents had settled in Karachi because of a business partnership with an English Merchant company named Grams Trading Company whose office was located in Karachi.
They rented a modest apartment on the first floor of the building is now popularly known as Wazir Mansion due to its proximity to the workplace.
2.Wazir Mansion Is Pakistan’s National Monument And Museum
Quaid-e-Azam’s birthplace is a precious national monument that was reclaimed as a heritage site after the death of Quaid. It was renovated and preserved in the year 2010 and made available for tourists to visit and admire.
Nationalities of Pakistan visit this place with reverence and draw inspiration from the living example that was born in Wazir Mansion; they admire the greatest heritage which was left behind to the people of Pakistan.
3.It Is Owned By The Government Of Pakistan
In 1953 the historic building was bought by the Government of Pakistan from Mr.Wazir Ali. The Government protected it under the AncieMonument Preservation Act of 1975 and Pakistan Public Works Department renovated and conserved the building.
Later on following the completion of the renovation Wazir Mansion was handed over to the Department of Archaeology and Museums, Government of Pakistan on 13th August, 1953 for its decent maintenance.
On 14th August, 1953 the Mansion was inaugurated by the Pakistan’s Governor who was the General of that period.
4.Wazir Mansion Is Quaid-e-Azam’s Former Family Home
The parents of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah lived in Wazir Mansion at the time of the nation’s supreme leader birth.
Mr. Muhammad Ali Jinnah later on spent his sixteen years of childhood living in Wazir Mansion before it was turned to a national archive which provides educative information and enthusiasm to the Pakistan nation.
5.Wazir Mansion Location
Located in the Chagla street area of Kharadar, Karachi. Wazir Mansion stands with prosperity and dignity in this area of Kharadar which is the oldest part of Karachi and was the most central part right after independence.
It is very crowded right now and I would not recommend it for residential purposes. To reach the Wazir Mansion I would prefer the early morning hours or midday when the area is less crowded.
I think the maximum amount a taxi should charge should be 800Rs, when coming from the other corner of Karachi.
6.Wazir Mansion Is A Three- storey Building
There is a public reading room and library at the ground floor of the building. The museum is located on the first floor and it has balcony which is divided into three big showcase rooms.
Second floor is decorated with nine showcases. Six showcases are fixed with wall while two are situated in the middle of the room.
Knowledge on Quaids dress collection is available here, ties, suits and trousers with his initials M.A.J, on the tag with the tailors name. The third floor acts as the custodian’s office.
7.It Is Made Up Of Beautiful Art Of Architecture
Wazir Mansion was designed and constructed by architect H Sohak using tiles masonry in lime and jute mortar to suit the volatile weather of Karachi. The walls of the magnificent structure are decorated with the rare and precious collection of Mohammad Ali Jinnah’s photographs.
It has classy wooden stairs which lead to the first floor. The balcony is divided into three rooms ,one of the rooms in which Quaid was born and it has Quaid’s birth bed, a dressing table and a set of faded white couches.
Additionally, an oil painting of Quaid made to him by artist Tajamul Hussain and a map of Pakistan scribed on marble are also displayed on the rooms. Actually, one can take more time just admiring the interior how it has been perfectly done.
8.Guide To The National Monument Visit
The museum is open to the public on all the six days of the week and remains closed on Wednesday. It operates between 0900 hours to 0500hours. Entry to the museum is through the main gate.
The booking office and bookshop are also situated in the main gate. Adults pay Rs. 20 while children between the ages of 6 to 12 years pay Rs. 10. Foreigners pay Rs.300 while students in groups are allowed to enter free for study and research purposes.

Other than the visit to the Wazir Mansion there are other sightseeing features that are aesthetically pleasing one can see. 10.It has a reading room suitable for students, history lovers and the general public
The reading room has a complete record for those passionate about historical literature. It has some of the leading newspapers since 1953 and an extensive collection of about 5000 books on the topics of biography, freedom movement, politics, law and history of Pakistan.
The law books are a set of 31 volumes of England regulation, and 684 law books belong to the Quaid. At least ten law books have the name of Mohammad Ali Jinnah in his handwriting.
