The Shahi knew Wazir Khan Hammam, a Persian-style bath that was built in Lahore Pakistan.

It was built during the reign of Emperor Shah Jahan. It was built by Chief Physician to the Mughal court IIam-Ud-Din-Ansari who was widely known as Wazir Khan.

After independence, the government converted the Hamman into a primary school for both boys and girls, a dispensary, and offices for government departments.

In 2012 The walled city of Lahore authority understanding the importance of Shahi Hammam removed fifty-two encroachments from its façade and set out the conservation plan.

The Aga Khan culture services extended their technical support to help with the conservation. The Royal Norwegian Embassy funded the work

Wazir Khan Hammam won the award for merit by UNESCO’s best conservation practice in Pakistan.

The Hammam is a single-story structure, the structure of two blocks. The walls of the baths are built with small bricks as used in the Mughal period.

The entire Hammam was illuminated from above with small openings on the roof which aided ventilation by allowing hot air to flow out.

They were separate baths for women and men, The northern half of the western façade included the main entrance.

The steam channels were made under the floor which was known as the hypocaust system. The woods were burnt under huge furnaces having water.

The steam would rotate through the channels heating the floor and the water in the reservoirs.

The water pipes in the form of tunnels were concealed and masked between the walls to provide fresh water to the people.

The used water was drained out through the channels on the floor, where the central pipeline would take the water into the main drain.
