Hafeez Jalandhari, a well-known name in the history of Pakistan, a poet, writer, philosopher and active participant of the Pakistan Movement before the partition. He was born in Jalandhar, British India on January 14, 1900. Son of Shams-ud-din.
His areas of writing were religion, society, romance, patriotism, independence and awareness. He used his writings for the noble cause of partition of the sub-continent and independence of our homeland. After the partition, he migrated from India to Pakistan and settled at Lahore where he spent the rest of his life, till death and served the nation.

Hafeez Jalandhari was a Pakistani Urdu-language poet who wrote the lyrics for the National Anthem of Pakistan. He actively participated in Pakistan Movement and used his writings to inspire people for the cause of Pakistan.
He also wrote the Kashmiri Anthem, ‘Watan Hamara Azad Kashmir’.In his time, Hafeez wrote many patriotic songs during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965.

Greater Iqbal Park formerly Minto Park is an urban park located on the outskirts of the Walled City in Lahore, Pakistan. Before current renovations and expansion, its name was Iqbal Park.
It is noted as the home of Minar-e-Pakistan, the 329-acre park includes an artificial lake which spreads over four acres and includes an 800-feet-long musical fountain. Other attractions include a two-kilometre-long soft rail, a library, an open-air gym and a food court. The tombs of Allama Iqbal and Hafeez Jalandhari are also located in the park.

Jalandhari served as Director General of morals in Pakistan Armed Forces, and then in a very prominent position as an adviser to the President, Field Marshal Mohammad Ayub Khan and also a Director of Writers Guild of Pakistan.

Hafeez Jalandhari’s monumental work of poetry, Shahnam-e-Islam, gave him incredible fame which, in the manner of Firdowsi’s Shahnameh, is a record of the glorious history of Islam in verse. Hafeez Jalandhari wrote the words of the national anthem of Pakistan composed by Ahmed Ghulamali Chagla also known as Ahmed G Chagla.
His creations in Urdu poetry have enchanting melody and lilting rhythms of his songs and lyrics. His poetry generally dealt with romantic, religious, patriotic and natural themes. He chose his themes, images and tunes from the subcontinent and his language is a fine blend of Hindi and Urdu diction, reflecting the composite culture of South Asia.

Hafeez Jalandhri passed away on December 21, 1982 at the age of 82 years. He was buried in Model Town, Lahore but later on, his body was re-buried in the tomb near Minar-e-Pakistan.

He had a special knack for poetry and literature. At the tender age of 17, he wrote a few couplets. A big mushaira (gathering of poets) was happening in the city he participated in it and won awards and immense respect.
After winning two awards consecutively he sought the great Persian poet, Maulana Ghulam Qadir Bilgrami for further knowledge. Because he was a self-taught poet Bilgrami christened him BeUstaada (one with no teacher). Moreover, he taught and corrected his poetry and natured his writing.
For his literary and patriotic services, he was awarded the most prestigious awards of Hilal-e-Imtiaz and Pride of Performance.

Hafeez Jalandhari was born in Jalandhar, British India on January 14, 1900. Son of Shams-ud-din, who was Hafiz-e-Quran, Hafeez Jalandhari got his early education at a mosque and later on, he was sent to a local school for acquiring higher education.
He only received formal education until the seventh grade. After the independence of Pakistan in 1947, Jullundhri migrated to Lahore in the new state of Pakistan.
9. Hafeez Jalandhari Family Life
Jullundhri married his cousin, Zeenat Begum, in 1917 at the age of 17. They had seven children, all girls. In 1939, he took a young English woman of Lithuanian descent, Anela, as his second wife.
They had a daughter; the marriage ended in divorce. His first wife, Zeenat Begum, died in 1954. In 1955, Jullundhri married Khurshid Begum, with whom he had a daughter.
