Misbah-ul-Haq, also known as Misbah-ul-Haq Khan Niazi is a former cricket player and former cricket coach from Pakistan. His position on the cricket field was middle-order batsman i.e. the player whose role is to hit the cricket ball with a bat in order to score runs and prevent the loss of one’s wicket.

He was born in May 1974 in Mianwali, Punjab. In his first test innings in Auckland 2001, Misbah showed grit by persevering over 2 hours of playing to score 28.

Misbah had a successful career both as a cricketer and coach. He broke world records and holds several records on his own. In May 2017, he officially retired from all formats of international cricket.

He was part of the 16 Asian Lions from Pakistan who played against the World Giants (a team of legends from all the continents except Asia), and Indian Maharajas in the Legends League Cricket 2022.

1. Misbah-ul-Haq is Part of Niazi Family

The Niazi is one of the largest Pashtun tribes that live in North-Western Pakistan and Afghanistan. The Pashtun Tribe is the 26th largest ethnic group in the world and is estimated to be 350 – 400 clans within itself.

Misbah-ul-Haq was the son to Abudl Qudoos Niazi and Balguees Khan Niazi .His father was a school principal. He passed away when Misbah was a child.

Misbah-ul-Haq has been married to his current wife, Uzma Khan, for 18 years and is a father to two children, Faheem-ul-Haq and Noriza Khan.

Misbah-ul-Haq is a far distant cousin to Imran Ahmed Khan Niazi who served as prime minister of Pakistan for nearly 4 years (August 2018 to April 2022). The seat was succeeded by Shehbaz Sharif.

Imran is ranked among the current top 10 world’s most influential Muslims. He is also known as cricket’s greatest all-rounder and won the 1992 Cricket World Cup for Pakistan!

3. He Graduated with a Master’s Degree in Business Administration

Misbah-ul-Haq had just begun playing tape ball cricket for Punjab when his parents felt otherwise and enrolled him in Faisalabad. Here, he got his undergraduate degree in Bachelor of Science (BSc).

He attended the University of Management and Technology to pursue a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) in Human Resource Management.

4. Misbah-ul-Haq Made His First-Class Debut at 24

In 1998, Misbah-ul-Haq played for the Sargodha cricket team, a first-class cricket team representing Sargodha Division in Punjab, Pakistan. First-class cricket is the highest standard of domestic or international cricket matches. He was selected for Test matches in 2001 and the One Day International Cricket Team in 2002.

The T20 World Cup Final of 2007 is one for the books in Misbah-ul-Haq’s history. According to the former cricket player, he got overconfident and miscalculated the scoop shot against Joginder Sharma leading India to become champions of the inaugural edition. India won with 157 runs with Pakistan having 152.

6. Misbah-ul-haq Led The Pakistan National Team to The Most Test Match Wins

Misbah was named captain of the Pakistan National Team at 36 years. He captained the team at 8 Twenty20 International (T201) games from 2011-2012 and won 6 of the matches.

Misbah-ul-Haq represented the national cricket team in 87 Tests Matches (2008-2015) tying in 2 matches and winning 45 of them. Between 2008 and 2015, Misbah-ul-Haq led Pakistan in 56 One Day International (ODI) games where he won 26 of them while 11 ended in a draw.

7. He Holds the Highest Successful Percentage as Captain of Pakistan Domestic Teams

In 2012/13, Misbah-ul-haq served as captain of the Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited (SNGPL). He won all the Twenty20, first-class, and List A tournaments of that domestic season.

The team won against Habib Bank Limited (HBL) cricket team and walked away as champions of the 2013 Patron’s Trophy. SNGPL also won the 2013 President’s Cup against Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA).

Misbah-ul-haq still holds the highest success percentage as captain of PSL’s (Pakistan Super League) matches.

8. Misbah-ul-haq Holds The Best Score of The Fastest 50 in Test Cricket

Misbah-ul-Haq is the number 1 player in the top 20 list of fastest 50 in Test cricket. David Warner holds the second position being the most recent addition (2017) to the list. Jacques Kallis from South Africa is third with 24 balls faced.

Misbah’s ability to graft for his runs and invention to score at a fast pace had his performance equal the 1986 Viv Richard’s world record of fastest century in Test History.

He got his fifty in just 21 balls and proceeded to score twin centuries within the same match. The match was held in Abu Dhabi in 2014 where Pakistan was playing against Australia. The competition tests the players’ ability to make 50 runs on the least number of balls faced

Misbah played his last Test Match against West Indies in May 2017.

9. He Holds the Record for The Most Career ODI Runs Without a Century

Misbah achieved the record during the One Day International (ODI) series in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 Match 29. He played team captain against South Africa at Eden Park in Auckland. He became the first batsman to score more than 5,000 runs without scoring a century.

10. Misbah-ul-Haq Retired from Limited Overs Cricket in 2015

After the 2015 World Cup, Misbah decided to quit and focus on his Test cricket series. Pakistan was playing against England and India and he saw fit to narrow in on the then-upcoming test matches.

Within the same year, Misbah signed to Rangpur Rangers and took part in the third edition of the Bangladesh Premier League to maintain his fitness for the 2016 Test matches. His performance in the League won him the Man of the Match Award.

His last tournament was in Adelaide where he played against Australia. In the match, Pakistan lost by 6 wickets with 97 balls remaining.
