Augustine Azuka Okocha, better known as Jay-Jay Okocha, is a retired Nigerian professional footballer who played as an attacking midfielder. Between 1993 and 2006, he appeared 73 times for the Nigeria national team, scoring 14 times and being a member of three FIFA World Cup squads. He is deemed as one of Africa’s finest football players.

He began his career with Enugu Rangers in the Nigerian Professional Football League before moving to Borussia Neunkirchen in Germany’s third division, Oberliga Südwest, in July 1990. Prior to retiring in 2008, he had played in the Bundesliga, Turkish Super Lig, French Ligue 1, English Premier League, EFL Championship, and Qatar Stars League.

1.In the mid- 1990s Jay-Jay was among the top football stars in Africa

In his testimonial against an African select side in Warri, he made a comeback for the Super Eagles. Former players included Daniel Amokachi, Alloysius Agu, John Fashanu, Benjani, and Sulley Muntari. Nigeria won the game 2-1, with Okocha scoring the game-winning goal after coming on in the second half. Pelé named him one of the top 125 living footballers in March 2004.
