Several of these may be found in Nigeria, including Gurara Falls in Niger State, Farin Ruwa Falls in Nasarawa State, Owu waterfalls in Kwara State, and Assop in Plateau. Olumirin waterfall, also known as Erin-Ijesha waterfall, is famous for a variety of reasons.

Erin-Ijesha Waterfalls is located in Erin-Ijesha. It is a tourist attraction located in Oriade local government area, Osun State, Nigeria.

1.Has Seven falls

Erin-Ijesa  has seven falls, each offering a unique perspective. The waterfall creates a vast pool of water on the ground that is encircled by foliage. The steps required to advance to the next level are not mentioned. Climbing them is a difficult task, but it is worthwhile because it provides an awe-inspiring experience. Going beyond the third stage can be made into a quest because most individuals are unable to, or do not try. When most people start climbing the waterfalls, they start counting from the bottom to the top, which is incorrect. The first waterfall is at the very top. The second is the largest, with water spilling from a 40-meter-high rock.

It is one of Nigeria’s most popular tourist destinations.  Erin-Ijesa has received over 50,000 visitors between January and November of 2014, making it the most visited tourist attraction that year. During the annual Osun-Osogbo Festival and Culture, Erin-Ijesha attracts guests from all over the world. A tour of other tourist attractions that does not include a stop at Erin-Ijesha waterfall is incomplete.

The Erin-Ijesha waterfalls have everything a tourist may want: from freedom to beauty, refreshment to quiet, happiness to safety… and, of course, motivation to do good.

3.The waterfalls were discovered in 1140 

Erin-Ijesha was discovered by hunters in 1140 AD, according to Erin Ijesha indigenes. The waterfall is divided into seven sections, including three major falls. According to mythology, the people of Erin Ijesha were migrants from Ile-Ife following the death of Oduduwa, the progenitor of the Yoruba race, prior to the discovery of the waterfall.
 However another source states that according to one of the waterfall’s custodians, it was discovered in 1140 AD by a woman named Akinla, the founder of Erin-Ijesha town and the granddaughter of Oduduwa, the progenitor of the Yoruba race, during the migration of Ife people to Erin-Ijesha. According to legend, when it was first discovered, the waterfall resembled a mysterious figure.

4. The waterfall had healing properties

Some locals said that in addition to being a tourist attraction, the waterfall had healing properties. One of the many other stories about the waterfall’s healing qualities is that  there was a woman who had been carrying a pregnancy for three years; she sought aid from several hospitals and traditionalists, but all proved futile. The woman drank the water and then delivered birth many weeks later.
 Therefore, people come from all over the world to visit Erin-Ijesha because of the water.

5. The natives regard the waterfall as a sacred site and a means of purifying their souls

When the inhabitants of Ife were relocating to Erin-Ijesha in 1140 AD, Akinla, a granddaughter of Oduduwa, discovered Olumirin, which means “another divinity”, which also referred to as the Erin Ijesha.  Akinla was also credited with founding the town of Erin-Ijesha. The waterfall is revered by the locals as a spiritual spot and a means of cleaning their souls. They also think that the waterfall is fed by a large pot at the summit of the rock.

Because of the profound beauty, the writer who visited the waterfalls for the first time declared that the waterfalls emanate a healing ambiance that only nature can generate.

Most of the tourists said that the first level of climbing Erin-Ijesha  was gorgeous and amazing and that they have never seen anything like it in their life; the water flows in a pattern, and simply watching it gives you a calming sense.

However, there are various interpretations of the waterfall’s history. According to one source, when it was originally found, the waterfall was thought to resemble a mystery creature, and no one dared to approach it for fear of being swallowed up.

It was  said to be a living spirit with various apertures through which water spilled; a gigantic and massive spirit whose height approached the high sky. Following that, the villagers called the fall “Olumirin,” which means “another deity whose influence over the entire area was only comparable to Akinla, the founder of Erin Ijesha town.”

9.Festivals were formerly celebrated and sacrifices performed at the site

At the time, Eri Ijesha residents believed the waterfalls were a sacred altar through which their souls could be purified. Of course, as their faith grew stronger and more convincing, they performed sacrifices and had festivities by the waterfalls.
