David Adedeji Adeleke (born November 21, 1992) is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, and record producer who goes by the stage name Davido. His single “Dami Duro,” released in 2011, was well-received throughout Nigeria. Davido is a co-owner of HKN Music with his elder brother Adewale Adeleke (a record label home to Sina Rambo, B. Red and DeeKay).

Davido has worked with Naeto C, Skales, Tiwa Savage, and Sauce Kid on songs. He signed a sponsorship deal with MTN Nigeria in April 2012. Davido collaborated with Guinness Nigeria for the “Guinness World of More” concert on October 23, 2013.

You will not be overstating if you say Davido is the greatest Nigerian and African act of 2017. He’s had an incredible year, from dropping hit after hit to embarking on a world tour and recently winning the MTV EMA for best African act.

Given how much of his life has been in the spotlight, you’d think there’s nothing new to learn about him, but this list may just prove you wrong, as some of these facts are fairly unexplored.

1.Davido’s attempt in university level and what he accomplished

Davido enrolled the British International School before moving to the United States to pursue a degree in Business Administration at Oakwood University in Alabama. His grades deteriorated as a consequence of his passion for music, so he dropped out and moved to London to hone his musical skills.

When he returned to Nigeria in 2011, his father insisted on him returning to school. They came to an agreement when the senior Adeleke funded the establishment of a Music Department at Babcock University, and Davido became the first (part-time) student. In 2015, he received a Second Class Upper diploma.

2.The artists other entrepreneurial endeavors outside his music career

Davido signed a $30 million endorsement deal with MTN on April 6, 2012, according to Nigerian Entertainment Today. He was named the face of MTN Pulse, a marketing campaign aimed at Nigerian youth, as part of the agreement. Guinness Nigeria signed Davido for an endorsement deal on October 24, 2013, according to Pulse Nigeria. He performed at the Guinness World of More Concert together with P-Square, D’banj, Wizkid, Ice Prince, Burna Boy, Olamide, Phyno, Chidinma, Waje, and Tiwa Savage as part of the deal.

3.Davido has had a couple endorsement deals with big brands

Davido signed a sponsorship agreement with Infinix Mobile, a Hong Kong-based smartphone manufacturer, according to Guardian Life on May 9, 2018. He was named an official brand ambassador by the famous sports betting brand 1xBet in May 2021. Martell (cognac) named Davido as its new ambassador on June 11.

Davido continues to mentor and collaborate with emerging artists such as Jels Quiah. Davido, Ice Prince, and Walshy Fire collaborated on the song UNCTION with Jels Quiah in August 2020. The song quickly became popular.

4.His early career in music and how he sow to the top of the music industry

His passion for music began when he was a student at Oakwood University. He started out as a backup singer for Sina Rambo, a growing rapper in the United States at the time. Three of them were in a group called KB international with B-Red.

His debut single, ‘Back When,’ featuring Naeto C, was released in 2011 and launched him to stardom. He allegedly paid Naeto C N1 million to appear on that song.

5.Davido began his career as a music producer

Davido did not begin his career as a singer, instead working as a music producer who wanted to be behind the scenes producing number ones however, he later changed his tune and began releasing vocals. He wrote and produced his first single, ‘Back When,’ which featured Naeto C.

Davido stated on Twitter in January 2016 that he had signed a record deal with Sony Music. His official statement drew mixed reactions. The record label issued a press release confirming the deal. Davido launched his own record label, Davido Music Worldwide (DMW), shortly after signing with Sony. The label currently represents Dremo and Mayorkun. Davido signed a record deal with Sony’s RCA Records in July 2016.

Davido had received 39 awards from 79 nominations as of November 2017. He has received a BET Award, a Kora Award, a Channel O Music Video Award, a Ghana Music Award, a Nigeria Music Video Award, two MTV Africa Music Awards, four African Muzik Magazine Awards, five The Headies Awards, seven Nigeria Entertainment Awards, two Dynamix All Youth Awards, and most recently, the MTV Europe Music Award for Best Worldwide Act 2017.

8.Davido is the father of three children by three different women

Davido has three children from three various women: two daughters and a son. Sophia Momodu gave birth to his first child and daughter, Imade Adeleke. Hailey Veronica Adeleke, his second child and daughter, is the result of his relationship with Amanda. Ifeanyi Adeleke, Davido’s only son, was born by his current fiance, Chioma Avril Rowland.

Davido challenged his friends and fans to send one million naira each to his bank account on November 17, 2021. Davido had posted on his Instagram and Twitter pages, demanding his followers to show him their love by sending money to the account number he provided.

He stated that anyone who does not complete the challenge should no longer associate with him.

He was successful in raising a total of 200 million naira. He contributed 50 million naira of his own money and formed a committee to distribute the funds to Nigerian orphanage homes. Davido tweeted a copy of the statement with the caption “we rise by lifting others.”

10.He has the most Instagram followers of any Nigerian celebrity

Davido is most probable the most productive Nigerian musician on Instagram, earning him the top spot on the list of the top ten most followed Nigerian celebrities on Instagram. With his Instagram account littered with photos of private jets, exotic cars, and designer clothes, fans keep returning for more as his followers grow by the day.
