Wrexham boss has opened up about his snub from the Red Dragons’ trip to Las Vegas

Phil Parkinson has announced that he would not travel to Las Vegas with the rest of the Wrexham squad after missing the cut.

After gaining promotion back to the Football League, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney will treat the players to a trip to Sin City in the summer. The Red Dragons won the National League title last month after defeating Boreham Wood 3-1 on April 22.

It was a monumental accomplishment for Parkinson and his team, as they broke the fifth-tier points record in the process, amassing 111 points from 46 games. Wrexham’s post-season festivities continued on Tuesday with an open-top bus procession through the town to toast their victory.

Manager Parkinson, who spoke to Sky Sports during the parade, revealed that he will not be heading to Vegas with the rest of the Wrexham squad. He said: “I didn’t make the cut for the Vegas trip, unfortunately. We’ll leave that one to the lads and hopefully, they will come back in one piece. I’m sure they will.”

This comes after top scorer Paul Mullin revealed that his partner was not thrilled when she found out the ex-Cambridge striker was heading to Vegas. However, the prospect of visiting the United States excites him.

“I don’t know if I can say it yet but we’re off to Vegas,” Mullin told the Footballers’ Football podcast, via ESPN. “It should be unbelievable, that’s literally what [the owners] were texting me about two minutes ago. I don’t think she (his partner) is too happy about it, but if the owners tell you you’ve got to go, you’ve got to go.”

Since their arrival at the Racecourse Ground two years ago, Reynolds and McElhenney have done an outstanding job both on and off the field. They have developed the playing team as well as done community service. However, reports indicate that the Hollywood duo is losing money, which McElhenney dismisses.

McElhenney told S4C prior to the parade, “I don’t think we’re necessarily concerned with losing money as much as we are with making the club sustainable, which has always been our intent.”

“It is interesting to see a lot of the media that has come out over our annual report from this past year because it is not taking into account so many different things. We don’t respond to it because we know what the truth is, which is that the club is certainly on its way to becoming sustainable and that’s what our goal is.”
