French prodigy finally declares for the 2023 NBA Draft
How can you miss Victor Wembanyama on the court? How can you not see how talented the teenage sensation is? It is surprising that all this time with the endless buzz around him and yet Victor had not even declared for the NBA draft!
Yes, Victor had not declared for the NBA yet but it was just a matter of time before he finally did. This came during an appearance he made on ESPN’s NBA Today on Friday, April 21, 2023, where he announced to Malika Andrews that he is officially declaring for the 2023 NBA draft.
An excited Wembanyama said, “Declaring for the draft, it’s something crazy I’m not realizing yet, I realized pretty young. I wanted to play in the NBA, but it becomes a reality more every day. I’m so lucky to have this dream within the reach of my hand.”
The French prodigy has already established a name for himself across the globe and teams will be salivating at the idea to usher him into the NBA.
Wembanyama has been causing quite a stir in various news outlets with his in-court maneuvers doing pretty much his talking. He has taken the basketball world by storm and he looks to continue his upward trajectory in the NBA.
His declaration for the NBA couldn’t come sooner because everyone was wondering when because it was a no-brainer that he would have declared soon enough.
Wemby’s playing style has been compared to legendary players in the NBA and fans are wondering if he might at one time be paired with these players. In an otherwise past interview with ESPN, Wembanyama clarified that he doesn’t mind the team that drafts him and he would go anywhere he gets selected. Talking to ESPN, Wemby said, “I am not worried, there is no bad organization. I never tell myself I don’t like to go there.”
On May 15, the NBA Draft Lottery will be held, revealing which team will receive the first overall pick on the 2023 NBA draft that will happen on June 22. Teams will be looking to secure Wembanyama with Detroit Pistons, Houston Rockets, and San Antonio Spurs all hoping to land the first pick.
As everything gets in place, Wembanyama’s main aim is to get ready for the next stage of his career and he does not seem to slow down on his routine. This season at Metropolitans has been good for Wembanyama because he has not missed a single game so far and it goes to show how ready he is getting for the NBA which is otherwise so intense and packed with a massive 82 games per season. June 22 couldn’t have come faster so that we can see where he(Wembanyama) gets drafted.
