Ukiyo-e is a Japanese term that directly translates to ‘pictures of the floating world.’ It is an ancient Japanese art that was popular from the seventeenth century to the nineteenth century. The exhibition of Japanese art is ongoing at the Museum of Rome Palazzo Braschi and will be on until June 23, 2024.

The art, mainly created by woodblock prints and paintings, shows the story of the entertainment industry in the district of Edo, which is modern-day Tokyo, and has found its way to the eternal city, of Rome.

With over one hundred and fifty masterpieces created by the most famous masters of Japanese art, the Ukiyo-e is an exhibition that you would not want to miss.

This is a rare opportunity for the locals and visitors in Rome to interact with the pieces of art from Japanese legends such as Kitagawa Utamaro, Katsushika Hokusai, Toshusai Sharaku, and Harunobu, among others. Each one of these master’s pieces of art is decorating the walls of the Palazzo Braschi for you.

The exhibition comes in different types of mediums to allow as many people as possible to have a glimpse of the art. Among the mediums, are handheld scrolls, brush paintings, and large format screens.
