Police have revealed that they apprehended two of the four inmates who escaped from jail over the weekend. The four, Omarion Hookfin, Avery Guidry, Jamarcus Cyprian and Travon Johnson escaped from Tangipahoa Â鶹APPh Kail where they were incarcerated unbeknownst to the guards who were in charge.

While speaking to reporters on Monday in a news conference Chief Jimmy Travis of the Tangipahoa Â鶹APPh Sheriff’s office informed the reporters that the four escaped through a weak link in the jail fence. He further revealed that the jail officials were not aware that they had escaped until they received a call from a relative of the escapees informing them that they had come looking for a place to stay in the middle of the night.

Two of the escapees, Johnson and Guidry who were hiding in a dumpster behind a Dollar General store 22 miles from the jail were arrested after someone called the police informing them that they had seen them. 

The other two Hookfin who had been arrested in connection to a homicide and Cyprian who had been jailed for armed robbery are still at large and police believe that they are likely to be outside Tangipahoa Â鶹APPh.

The chief acknowledged that the jail was short-staffed and the other staff were inexperienced but it was no excuse for the four to have managed to escape. “We had a failure within that we have to correct and move forward,” Travis said.

Investigations into the breakout are still ongoing with investigators reviewing all the evidence. The police have also urged anyone with more information to call the Crime Stoppers of Tangipahoa.
