Police officers in Bedfordshire have authorised additional stop and search powers after a man was stabbed. The man was stabbed in Hazelburry Cresent, Luton on Sunday evening and the police have confirmed that he is in stable condition in the hospital. Two men have been arrested in connection to the incident.
The Section 60 order which has been imposed will stay in place until Tuesday 07:00 BST. While addressing reporters, Superintendent Ian Taylor said, 鈥� We appreciate the incident and authorisation of a Section 60 may evoke some concern amongst residents, and we would like to reassure the community that the aim is to help us keep the public safe.
We will use it appropriately to search anyone in the area, utilising these powers to deter any further offences鈥�.
The Section 60 order will apply to the following areas; the town centre, High Town, Bury Park, New Town and Farley Hill.
Bedfordshire police have also appealed to anyone who witnessed the stabbing to contact them on 101.
