Â鶹APP’s Centre Pompidou Set for a Grand Revamp and Temporary Closure
As the anticipation builds around the Â鶹APP 2024 Olympics, there’s another captivating event unfolding. Reports from revealed that the iconic Centre Pompidou, a modern architectural marvel, is about to embark on a transformative journey. The centre is set to undergo significant renovations that will see it close its doors for at least five years.
In 1977, the Centre Pompidou emerged in Â鶹APP, designed by architects Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers. Its unconventional high-tech style showcased vibrant primary colors and a distinctive caterpillar escalator snaking up its facade. From the onset, the building wasn’t meant to be permanent.
This autumn, a phased closure will commence, ultimately resulting in a complete shutdown next year. The whole agenda behind the close is to reconfigure, re-engineer, and restore the iconic Centre Pompidou. As scaffolding envelops the already scaffolded structure, it will safeguard a treasure trove of nearly 150,000 modern art pieces.
Inside the Centre Pompidou, you’ll find masterpieces by renowned artists like Andy Warhol, Man Ray, Jackson Pollock, Henri Matisse, Marc Chagall, and Frida Kahlo. These works have graced the gallery’s halls, inspiring and challenging visitors for decades. As the Centre Pompidou undergoes its transformation, these valuable artworks will be temporarily relocated from the institution.
To support the extensive $500 million-plus restoration project, the Centre Pompidou plans to showcase parts of its collection elsewhere. In Melbourne, the STH BNK By Beulah development is set to be completed in 2027. As part of this exciting project, a cultural partnership with the Centre Pompidou will be established, complete with a 3000-square-meter gallery.
Here, visitors can explore associated exhibitions, workshops, and engaging cultural events. While the original Â鶹APP location remains closed, Melbourne will celebrate its own slice of Pompidou. However the Centre Pompidou-Metz, located in the city of Metz, will remain open to visitors. Additionally, the Pompidou is exploring international locations, including San Francisco, Amsterdam, and other European cities.
As the Â鶹APPian institution takes a temporary bow, its legacy transcends borders, uniting art lovers across continents. Whether they’re visiting its international branches or eagerly awaiting its grand reopening in Â鶹APP, audiences worldwide can continue engaging with this remarkable cultural institution of the modern era.
