Lovers of literature and baroque architecture can celebrate news of the virtual access of the National Library in Prague, launched in mid-April, 2024. Users will enjoy exceptional historical documents, digital stories, online exhibitions, and a fun puzzle party zone. This follows the library鈥檚 partnership with Google Arts & Culture.

This Baroque library in the historical Clementinum building will present its magic to users via Google鈥檚 Street View. The move came in honor of the 100th-anniversary celebration of one of the institution鈥檚 branches, Slavonic Library. The aim is to push Czech and English content to a wider audience.

Tom谩拧 Folt媒n, director of the Czech Republic National Library wrote on Google Arts & Culture page, 鈥淭hanks to modern imaging methods and virtual tours in Street View, everyone can visit the unique Baroque spaces of one of the most beautiful libraries in the world at any time, no matter where they are鈥�.

The highlights in the virtual collection include at least 200 historical documents, four digital stories, and a puzzle party. Users can explore rare historical manuscripts inaccessible to the public in the physical facility. Such as the Vy拧ehrad Codex, one of the Czech Republic鈥檚 crucial manuscripts. Other masterpieces are the Star Globe by Caspar Pflieger and the Map of the New World by Sebastian M眉nster.

This collaboration between the library and Google is an ongoing process. Earlier, thousands of old prints were digitized and made accessible to the public through Google Books.
