Police in Mexico have confirmed the deaths of three tourists who had gone missing in Northern Mexico since last week after their parents identified their bodies. The bodies of the deceased, Carter Rhoad, a United States Citizen, Callum and Jake Robinson, two Australian brothers all in their early 30s were found at the bottom of a well in the state of Baja California.
When they went missing, the three were on a surfing holiday in Ensenada, a popular tourist town close to the US-Mexico border. While addressing the press, the state prosecutor revealed that they are believed to have been killed after they fought against thieves who wanted to steal their vehicle. The vehicle in question was found set on fire nearby.
The police have arrested three suspects, two men and a woman concerning the deaths. One of the suspects has a history of robbery, drug dealing and history of violence.
Jim Chalmers, the Australian Treasurer, has also sympathised with the victims’ families. “I think the whole country’s heart goes out to all of their loved ones. It has been an absolutely horrendous, absolutely horrific ordeal and our thoughts are with all of them today”.
