London’s Hampton Court Palace is set to welcome spring with its annual Tulip Festival, which will see over 100,000 tulips planted in the palace’s gardens. The festival is scheduled to run for a few weeks, during which the gardens will be overflowing with a variety of formally planted and freestyle tulip displays.

Visitors to the festival can expect to see regimental rows of tulips lining the edges of the lawns, and floating tulip bowls in the Great Fountain in front of the palace. In addition to these displays, a new attraction for 2024 will be a display of thousands of tulips spilling from a Victorian horse cart in the palace courtyards, giving the appearance of a Dutch flower seller’s cart.

The Royal Parks’ gardeners have been working hard to create immaculately orderly displays of tulips co-mingling with other seasonal blooms. St. James’s Park is a must-visit for those who want to see the best of spring floral colours. The formal flower beds in the area around the cafe are home to a variety of tulips and other seasonal blooms.

Other Royal Parks, such as Regent’s Park, Kensington Gardens, and Hyde Park, also have their own tulip displays. The large stone vases on either side of the Broad Walk in Regent’s Park are usually laden with colourful tulips.

Pashley Manor, on the Kent/East Sussex border, is another popular destination for tulip enthusiasts. The annual Tulip Festival at Pashley Manor sees the gardens burst into colour with 45,000 tulips expected to bloom in 2024. They are planted in colour-themed garden ‘rooms’ throughout the grounds and in pot displays, and cut flowers can be seen in a marquee too.

In addition to Hampton Court Palace and Pashley Manor, Arundel Castle in Sussex will also host a Tulip Festival. The Hogwarts-esque castle reopens each spring with 100,000 bulbs scattered through the gardens and grounds, from formal gardens to hillsides. The festival dates for 2024 are yet to be confirmed.

The Tulip Festival at Hampton Court Palace is a must-visit for anyone looking to welcome spring with a splash of colour. The festival is set to run for a few select weeks, so make sure to plan your visit accordingly.
