As May approaches, Londoners may find themselves reaching for their winter coats a little while longer, as a cold front sweeps across the capital and much of the country. This week, temperatures have plummeted to a chilly 9°C, with the Met Office even predicting frost overnight.

According to the , While low cloud cover might offer some respite by adding a few degrees on Wednesday, a strong breeze and showers are anticipated later in the week, painting a rather bleak picture for weather enthusiasts. The frosty temperatures of this week stand in stark contrast to the balmy weather experienced earlier this month, with Essex recording a high of 21.8°C.

According to the Met Office, the forecast for the remainder of the month predicts, “A cloudy start to the evening with clear spells developing through into the early hours. Staying dry with light winds, with some rural grass frost possible. Minimum temperature 2°C.”

Isolated showers are expected tomorrow, with temperatures climbing to around 12°C. The rest of the week promises a mix of bright and cloudy conditions, accompanied by “moderate winds for most, breezy along coasts. Temperatures feeling on the cool side.”

Weather experts confirm that the current temperatures are below average, attributing this chilly spell to a previous bout of low pressure across the country, which ushered in a northerly flow of cool air, causing the mercury to drop.
