Concerns have been raised about the increase in commercial dog walking in Epsom’s Nonsuch Park in London, prompting the introduction of control measures. The Epsom & Ewell Borough Council has launched a public consultation that will run until 3 June to obtain feedback on multiple dog walking in the park. The council aims to strike a balance between the needs of dog walkers and the broader park community.
According to the , the Nonsuch Park joint management committee chair, Councillor Julian Freeman, revealed that most dog walkers were responsible but some concerns had been raised. In January 2023, the Tandridge District Council also sought feedback on dog walking controls in the district following the death of dog walker Natasha Johnston.
Mr Freeman emphasized the importance of public participation in the consultation process to understand the concerns, suggestions, and thoughts of park visitors on dog control and commercial dog walking. He stated: “We are aware that Nonsuch Park is hugely popular with dog walkers and while most dog walkers are responsible, concerns have been raised about the growth of commercial walkers with multiple dogs.”
Council officers will be available at the park on 15 and 22 May to answer questions from the public. Visitors can interact with the officers at London Road Gate from 10:30 BST to 12:30 BST on 15 May and at Sparrow Farm Road Gate from 12:30 BST to 14:30 BST on 22 May.
