Elon Musk Announces Newly Hired Twitter Chief Is Female
Twitter has a new CEO, as per an Elon Musk announcement via his Twitter account. The tweet, as he chooses to make both official and unofficial announcements, was posted on Thursday, 11th May.
The tweet read, “Excited to announce that I’ve hired a new CEO for X/Twitter. She will be starting in ~6 weeks! My role will transition to being exec chair & CTO, overseeing product, software & sysops.”
As per the tweet, Elon will remain the majority shareholder and will be in control of the general direction the platform will take as shown by the many roles he will retain n the company.
The move will also allow Mr. Musk to give his other ventures which include Tesla, SpaceX, Starlink, and the much-anticipated X.AI. This seems to be working already as Tesla stock rose immediately after the news broke.
The New CEO Is Female, But Who Is It?
Mr. Musk did not name the site’s new boss but said “she” would start in six weeks. The news that the incoming CEO was female quickly caught the public’s attention.
Some took the chance to make memes that it was a hoax while others created edited photos of Elon Musk in a wig. If the announcement is real, however, it rules out most of the primed contenders for the position who were male. What ensued was a lot of speculation on who the new CEO is.
However, among the many names touted as probable successors to the Twitter throne, there are two that stand out. These are NBCU’s Linda Yaccarino and Ella Irwin who is currently leading Twitter’s trust and safety efforts.
Chatter from media houses points to Linda Yaccarino, head of global advertising and partnerships at NBC Universal. Yaccarino has been vocally in support of Musk’s efforts as the Twitter head.
In a recent Ad Age conference, she stated that Musk needs to be given time to turn the company around. As Business Insider states, Yaccarino has expertise in internet video ad sales which is an area where Twitter may grow under Musk’s ownership.
However, as external sources back Yaccarino, Twitter employees and staff are backing one of their own. Ella Irwin already in the employ of the platform is the next CEO as per speculation from Twitter employees. One employee was quoted saying, “Everyone thinks it’s going to be her.”
