Elon Musk Allegedly Starting New AI Startup Called X.AI

According to State filings, Twitter and Tesla CEO Elon Musk has created a new artificial intelligence company called X.AI Corp. As per the listing, the company is incorporated in Nevada.

As reported by the Wall Street Journal, Mr. Musk s the only listed director of the newly minted AI company. The director of Elon鈥檚 family office, Jared Birchall is listed as the secretary.

According to Financial Times, the company was incorporated on March 9th, 2023. According to reports, Musk s assembling a team of AI researchers and engineers.

The Financial Times also claims that Musk has secured thousands of high-powered GPU processors from Nvidia to be used on the project. People who are familiar with the plans Musk has, say that he is in discussions with several investors who are already working with him at SpaceX and Tesla.

About The Name and Musk鈥檚 History With AI

Recently, Musk changed Twitter鈥檚 name in the company filings to X Corp. This is part of Musk鈥檚 plan to develop an 鈥渆verything app鈥� using the brand 鈥淴鈥�. Therefore X.AI looks like the AI sector of the 鈥渆verything app鈥�.

X.AI will not be Elon Musk鈥檚 first venture into AI. He is recognized as one of the founders of OpenAI. However, Musk left OpenAI in 2018. As per reports, his parting with the company was not peaceful. He left after a disagreement with the other founders who did not allow him to lead the company.

The news of Musk鈥檚 new AI company comes merely weeks after he and other tech executives wrote an open letter calling for a pause on the development of generative AI models more powerful than ChatGPT-4. This does indeed raise eyebrows in the tech industry especially considering how fast Musk is moving in the development of OpenAI.

X.AI will allow Musk to take on his former company OpenAI in the heating-up AI wars. According to the Financial Times, the company will probably use Twitter data (which Elon blocked OpenAI from accessing) to train the language model they developed. The company could also make use of Tesla for computing power.
