Detroit Pistons instantly become a playoff team by landing Wembanyama

The 2023 NBA draft keeps getting closer day by day and outstanding prospects keep waiting to be called up by their dream NBA teams. Of all the prospects, the potential number one pick, Victor Wembanyama, has been the talk of the day with unending debates among veterans, players and pundits. With his exceptional performance on the court, fans and scouts have been left in awe by what the French prodigy can do. 

Victor is poised to be drafted first overall on June 22, 2023, NBA draft and fans can’t stop wondering which lucky team will be able to land the 7’4″ athlete. San Antonio Spurs, Houston Rockets and the Detroit Pistons stand the highest chance to draft Wemby. The order in which these teams will get to choose the players will be determined in the NBA draft lottery set for May 16, 2023.

However, the Detroit Pistons among the worst-performing teams stand the biggest chance to land Wembanyama and a guaranteed top-five pick in the coming NBA draft. The Detroit Pistons finished last in the Eastern Conference with a 17-65 record low as the regular season closed. 

Among all the worst-performing teams, Detroit Pistons will have landed the first overall pick in the NBA draft twice in three years having gotten the first overall pick in 2021 where they selected Cade Cunningham. The Pistons will be looking to revamp and add Wembanyama to the young squad, and Detroit will have pumped new life into the team.

Wembanyama Not Ready For The NBA

Wembanyama is still expected to be the first overall pick, as he possesses the unique athletic skills necessary to be a once-in-a-generation talent similar to LeBron James. While he is known for his speed and power, Wembanyama is known for his amazing skill and agility at 7 feet 4 inches tall. Although he frequently comes out as the tallest player on the court, he moves and handles the ball like a guard would. That has been one of the main reasons why teams want him on their squad and the Detroit Pistons would be lucky to get him.

This comes at a time when the Detroit Pistons are looking for a new coach after Dwayne Casey was forced to step down because of poor performance in the just-concluded regular season. With his announcement, the Detroit Pistons’ search for a new coach will be supplemented by landing Wembanyama and that would mean danger for other teams in the NBA.

The Pistons’ young squad is set to be a force to reckon with in the coming seasons. By adding Wembanyama the Pistons could actually get to where it was during the 80s and 90s when legendary Isaiah Thomas was on the team. Perhaps a  new coach and another number 1 draft pick in the 2023 NBA draft is all the Detroit Pistons need to get their redemption.
