The streets of Istanbul will be filled with smiles and laughter on April 23rd as Turkey celebrates two major holidays – National Sovereignty and Children’s Day. This unique double celebration promises a delightful time for families visiting the city.

National Sovereignty Day commemorates the foundation of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey in 1920. It is a patriotic occasion honouring the country’s long struggle for self-rule.

Children’s Day this year coincides with this special day. On this day, kids are treated like kings and queens across the nation.

In Istanbul, the festivities will be felt everywhere you go. The city’s parks and fairgrounds will host colourful carnivals with games and  entertainment, to thrill the little ones. Ferries along the Bosphorus will offer cruises with events just for children.

At Taksim Square, the heart of modern Istanbul, a massive parade and performing acts will take over the area. Children from all walks of life will march joyfully alongside dancers, musicians, and even famous Turkish celebrities. Many restaurants will extend free meals and special menus for families.
