The prestigious title was awarded by The Sunday Times, which carefully evaluated 72 locations across the UK before declaring Clerkenwell as the ultimate winner for the region. This vibrant neighbourhood is home to renowned spots like Exmouth Market and Sadler’s Wells Theatre.

According to The , Clerkenwell embodies all that’s best about life in London, showcasing a rich history and playing a pivotal role in the capital’s culinary and creative scenes. The judges of the competition personally visited each location and engaged with the local community to assess various factors such as schools, transportation, access to nature, the vitality of the high street, and the overall sense of community.

Tim Palmer, one of the judges, emphasized that while different individuals may seek different attributes in a neighbourhood, all of the best places share the commonality of being beloved by their residents and evoking a sense of pride in calling it home.

Clerkenwell’s victory dethroned last year’s winner, Crouch End, which was still acknowledged for its remarkable concentration of shops, cafes, and restaurants within its Victorian and Edwardian architectural surroundings. Other notable London neighbourhoods that made the esteemed list included London Fields, dubbed as haute Hackney, and Little Venice, renowned for its tranquil canal walks and picturesque but expensive residences.
