The clatter of wheels on rails and the gentle sway of a train carriage are once again becoming part of the European travel experience. European Sleeper, an innovative start-up, has launched a new overnight train service connecting Brussels to Prague.

A Greener Way to Cross Europe

Leaving Brussels on Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings, passengers can now drift off to sleep in Belgium and wake up in the Czech Republic. Offering a scenic and sustainable alternative to flying, the train winds its way through Amsterdam, Berlin and Dresden.

“Our goal is to add a new route each year,” says Elmer Van Buuren, co-founder of European Sleeper. “We want to contribute to a more integrated and sustainable European transportation network.” This service taps into growing concerns about the environmental impact of air travel.

Comfort and Convenience on the Rails

The Good Night Train is not just about being green, it is designed for comfort too. Passengers can choose from seats, couchettes, or private sleeping compartments.

“People can sleep and get rested while being transported and then wake up in a new city on time for a professional meeting,” Van Buuren explains. “It is kind of magical.”

This revival of overnight train travel zooms back to a bygone era but with modern touches. While Wi-Fi isn’t available yet due to high installation costs, the company is gradually upgrading its carriages to improve the overall experience.

The Future of European Train Travel

European Sleeper is not stopping with the Brussels-Prague route. The company plans to expand, with a Barcelona service in the works for 2026. A growth that is part of a broader night-train comeback trend across Europe.

Martin Kupka, Czech Minister of Transport, welcomed the new service: “Night trains are now making a comeback all over Europe and I am very glad that the Czech Republic is not left behind.”

The Good Night Train and services like it may well signal the dawn of a new golden age of European rail travel. Bearing in mind that  more travellers are seeking alternatives to flying. The night train looks set to become an increasingly popular way to explore Europe. Especially, with its ability to visit multiple capitals in a single trip, all while reducing your carbon footprint, .
