From May 29th to June 2nd, 2024, the streets of Berga will come alive with the mesmerizing sights and sounds of La Patum de Berga, a UNESCO-recognized festival that traces its origins back to the Middle Ages.

In a remarkable turn of events, Berga’s musicians have unearthed long-forgotten scores that promise to breathe new life into this time-honored tradition.

 Lluís Gual, a revered Berga musician, recently stumbled upon a treasure trove of sheet music dating back to the period between 1925 and 1936, revealing the haunting melodies that once accompanied three of the festival’s iconic dances.

“I always say that I didn’t find these scores, they found me,” Gual shared with the Agency, his voice brimming with awe and reverence. It has been over three decades since such a significant discovery has graced the annals of La Patum, underscoring the profound importance of this find.

In a remarkable display of cultural preservation, Gual’s arrangements of these rediscovered pieces will be performed by the talented Cobla Berga Jove on Sunday, April 21st, 2024, at the Teatre Municipal de Berga, and again on April 27th in L’Ametlla de Merola. 

This promises to be a truly unforgettable experience, where the echoes of the past will resonate with the present, creating a symphony that transcends time itself.
