A piece of Prague’s railway history is getting a new lease on life. The old Praha-Bubenec station, silent for a decade, will soon buzz with activity again. But instead of trains, it will welcome art lovers, music fans, and community groups.

On August 28, 2024, exactly ten years after its last train departed, the station will reopen as “Stanice 6” (Station 6). This exciting cultural center aims to become a hotspot for locals and tourists alike.

“We’re breathing new life into this historic building,” said a Prague 6 official. “Stanice 6 will be a place where people can come together, enjoy art, and celebrate our community.”

The transformation of Praha-Bubenec station is part of a larger trend. Cities around the world are finding new uses for old railway buildings. But Stanice 6 is a first for Prague.

The building’s makeover has been careful and respectful. Workers fixed up the old wooden porch and opened up the inside to create more space. They also made sure the station is easy to reach for everyone, including people with disabilities.

Praha-Bubenec station has a long history. Built in 1850, it was Prague’s second-ever train station. For over 160 years, it connected the city to other parts of the country. Now, it’s ready to connect people in a different way.

An Alternative Space for Events

As Stanice 6 prepares to open its doors, excitement is building. “We can’t wait to see this space come alive again,” says Martin Krb, one of the center’s new operators. “It’s going to be a special place for Prague.”
