A potential crisis was averted at Aer Lingus as the Irish Air Line Pilots Association (Ialpa) recommended a 17.75 per cent pay rise offer to its members, ending the industrial action that had disrupted travel plans for thousands of passengers. This recommendation followed a Labour Court-brokered deal, with the union’s work to rule set to be lifted during the voting period.

The union’s decision came after seeking clarification from the court and Aer Lingus, ultimately leading to Ialpa backing the pay increase proposal. Capt Mark Tighe, President of Ialpa, hailed the pay rise as a significant win for pilots, signalling a positive development in the ongoing negotiations.

While Aer Lingus had already cancelled flights through next week, the airline welcomed Ialpa’s move and eagerly anticipated the completion of the balloting process. The voting period is scheduled from July 18th to July 23rd, with the union expected to sway most members in favour of the deal.
