Charlotte Dawson was a New Zealand-Australian television personality. She was born on 8th April 1966 and she died on February 22nd, 2014.
She was known in New Zealand for her roles as host of Gateway and in Australia as a host on The Contender Australia and as a judge on Australia’s Next Top Model.

1. Charlotte grew up in Auckland New Zealand
Dawson grew up in Auckland New Zealand after being adopted at birth. She dropped out of high school at the age of 16 to model in Europe and with Ford Models in New York City.
A decade later she relocated to Australia where she became a familiar face on the Australian fashion scene.
2. She was a researcher at Nine Network
While working for Australian agencies Cameron’s and Priscilla’s as an agent she decided to try her hand at TV.
She became a researcher at Nine Network and worked on programs such as Money and Looking Good.
Shortly after she became fashion editor for the network Today program filling weekly reports on local and international fashion news and events within the industry.
Magazines such as Vogue, Elle, She, Dolly, Cleo, and Mode tracked Dawson’s progress featuring her in fashion spreads.
3. Charlotte was a judge on Australia’s Next Top Model
She was a judge and sometimes mentor to the models during challenges on FOX8’s Australia’s Next Top Model from season 3 in 2007 to season 8 in 2013.
And in 2008 she filled in for regular host Jodhi Meares for the live finale. She also hosted the Foxtel series Runway to L.A.
4. At the Age of 32, she got pregnant but had an Abortion
Dawson who was 32 at the time later admitted that she had fallen pregnant but had an abortion. In her book Air Kiss and Tell which was released in 2012 she said:
“I could sense some hesitation in Scott. My due date would clash with the 2000 Olympic Games and this was very concerning.
Everything Scott had done was leading up to this moment and nothing could stand in his way so it was decided that we would terminate the child and try again later.
Who needed a developing fetus when a gold medal was on offer, eh?” “I felt a shit,” she wrote, “maybe it was hormonal but I felt the early tinges of what I can now identify as my first experience with depression.”
5. Charlotte was married to Scott Miller
In 1999 she married Olympic swimmer Scott Miller however in 2001 the couple who were known for their partying ways and fun-loving lifestyle divorced.
Rumors began to emerge that Miller had cheated on Dawson but it has never been confirmed. Dawson said “It was a painful time in my life and It might not be good for me.
To me, it was well over 10 years ago. This broke me very much. I had to go away for five years and leave this country and rebuild my life. I have adjusted and moved on but it is still very painful.”
6. She loved Working out
She had been showing off the results of her weight loss after losing an impressive three-and-a-half stone in six months.
Charlotte Dawson had insisted her hard work was not a result of a faddy diet or restrictive calorie counting.
In fact, she didn’t give up anything she loved. “ I might be slimmer but chips and gravy are still my life.” She also said: I am not one for eating leaves. When I feel down I will get a chippy that’s how I have always been.”
7. Charlotte Dawson battled Depression and Low self-esteem
She managed the transition from modeling to high profile TV presenter on the strength of her personality, intelligence, and work ethic but she suffered from depression and low self-esteem.
Which she wrote in her autobiography Air Kiss and Tell. “I am tired of the anxiety that comes with working in media especially as a woman because you are scrutinized daily and abused about the way you look.”
She told News Corp. “I am aging and I am accepting that. The graceful thing, the dignified thing is to walk away.”
8. She was Hospitalized after attempting Suicide
In 2012 Dawson was admitted to St Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney after attempting suicide due to a much-publicized battle with Twitter trolls.
Dawson was rushed to hospital after being found in a fragile state by a former Australia’s Next Top Model finalist.
Dawson was made the target of an organized online campaign of harassment in part due to her involvement with an anti-cyberbullying initiative community brave.
9. Charlotte was an Anti-bullying Ambassador with the National Rugby League
In 2013 Dawson announced a new role as an anti-bullying ambassador with the National Rugby League.
Some media sources such as the Daily Telegraph suggested that Dawson was guilty of double standards citing her aggressive television persona and her history of discouraging contestants on Australia’s Next Top Model.
Peter Ford from Melbourne’s 3AW alleged that “the problem of Charlotte taking on this cause is her act is about abusing people and putting them down so it becomes a bit murky as to why she has become a champion of this particular cause.”
10. She died by Suicide in her Home
Dawson died by suicide in her Woolloomooloo home on 22nd February 2014. A real estate agent found her body when he arrived to inspect the property ahead of its auction.
Police were called and confirmed her death at 11:18 am there were no suspicious circumstances to the death.
