Rebecca Catherine Gibney is a New Zealand actress known for her roles on Australian television in The Flying Doctors, Packed to the Rafters, Halifax f.p., Winter, and Wanted.

1. Rebecca Gibney was born in Levin New Zealand
Rebecca was born the youngest of six children she was born in Levin New Zealand and brought up in Wellington where she attended Wellington Girls College.
However, she recounted that she was a “bit odd” as a child stating “I was a bit like Wednesday Addams in The Addams Family.
I walked around with this headless doll that I took everywhere.” Furthermore, Rebecca moved to Australia at the age of 19 after graduating from high school.
2. She worked as a Model
Rebecca began modeling part-time while working as a receptionist at Wellington Jeweler. Modeling led to advertisements that then appeared on television in the New Zealand Kidult series Sea Urchins from 1980 to 1984.
However, she broke into Australian television with the role of Julie Davis in the children’s series Zoo Family in 1985.
She went on to play mechanic Emma Plimpton in the popular drama series The Flying Doctors and in 1990 she starred in the mini-series Come In Spinner.
In addition, in 1991 she starred in the Channel Nine Sitcom All Together Now leaving the series in 1993.
3. Rebecca Gibney won the Gold Logie
From August 2008 until its conclusion in 2013 Rebeca played the female lead of Julie Rafter on the Seven Network’s Packed to the Rafters.
However, her role in the show proved popular for Rebecca and she won the Gold Logie in 2009 for the show. Furthermore, in 2010 she played the lead role in Channel Ten’s telemovie Wicked Love: The Maria Korp Story.
4. She starred in the movie Mental
In 2012 she starred in the movie Mental which is an Australian comedy-drama film. Moreover, on 23rd October 2013, the seven networks announced that Rebecca will star in and produce a new crime drama The Killing Field which was released in 2014.
Rebecca plays a detective tasked with solving the murder of a teenage girl in a small town.

Rebecca has been married twice and first to Irwin Thomas who is an American-born Australian singer, songwriter, and guitarist he performs professionally using the stage name Jack Jones and they divorced.
She married production designer Richard Bell in November 2001 and they have a son who was born on 7th April 2004.
6. She won her first Award in 1990
Rebecca won her first award in 1990 winning the Australian Film Institute Award for Best Actress for her role in Come In Spinner.
She also won the peer-nominated Most Outstanding Actress Logie Award in 1991 for her role in the show.

7. At first, Rebecca Gibney did want to compete in Celebrity MasterChef but she changed her mind and competed
When she asked what exactly it was that made her want to sign up for Celebrity MasterChef Rebecca said she initially didn’t want to.
“I said no! I actually thought there had been a mistake when my agent called. I said are you sure it’s not Survivor or one of those other shows? And she went no MasterChef.
I went but I don’t cook I am a basic cook I’m certainly not a chef so I think I am probably the wrong person. I love the show I have watched it and I know the dishes that are expected.”
But there was one person in particular who changed her mind. “my son said he would disown me if I said no! he’s 17 and he said Mum that’s the only reality show that has credibility. If you are going to do any reality show this is the one.
I did not realize that he’s a little bit of a closet MasterChef Viewer. So I had to ring them back and say I have reconsidered.”
8. She Acted in and produced The Map Reader
In 2008 she returned to New Zealand to act in and help produce Harold Brodie’s low-budget feature The Map Reader.
Rebecca co-starred as the alcoholic mother of an introverted teenager who is obsessed with maps.
The film won a number of awards at the indie festivals worldwide and was nominated at home for best feature made for under 1 million dollars.
9. Rebecca Gibney First big acting part proved Challenging
Rebecca’s first big acting part proved challenging partly because her director spoke little English.
German Kiwi Coproduction Among the Cinders based on the Maurice Shadbolt novel saw her playing romantic interest to the troubled main character. Rebecca later described the experience as “absolutely terrible”.
