3. Jackie in a span of five years has been in more than five clubs

Her brilliance has piqued the interest of many, who want to sign her. In 2011, Groenen began playing for FCR 2001 Duisburg. By the end of 2013, they had filed for bankruptcy. Against USV Jena in the Bundesliga Cup on May 7, 2011, Groenen made her club debut, scoring the third goal in a 4-1 victory.

On August 28, 2011, she made her league debut in a 2-0 victory over Hamburger SV. In June 2015, she made her way back to Germany and joined FFC Frankfurt. Groenen made her club debut on September 5 in a 1-0 victory over 1899 Hoffenheim.

4. She became the  first Manchester United overseas signing in 2019

5. FIFA blocked Groenen’s attempts to switch to representing Belgium

6. She was with the team that won the UEFA Women’s Euro 2017

Groenen was called up to the Netherlands senior team in January 2016 in preparation for the group’s winter training camp in Turkey. On January 22, 2016, she participated in two exhibition games against Denmark to earn her maiden senior cap.

Groenen was a member of the Dutch squad that captured the 2017 UEFA Women’s Euro. She participated in every game and was selected for the 2017 UEFA Tournament Team.

7. Her only goal took the Netherlands to World Cup for the first time

Groenen was chosen for the Netherlands team that won the 2018 Algarve Cup in February 2018. The Algarve Cup was given to both teams as a result of the Netherlands and Sweden final being postponed due to heavy rain and unfavorable weather conditions.

Groenen was chosen for her maiden World Cup in April 2019. She played in all of the tournament’s games at the beginning, and she assisted on the team’s lone goal against Sweden in the 1-0 semifinal victory in extra time to enable them to advance to their first World Cup final. The US ultimately defeated the Netherlands in the championship game.

8. Groenen has won a series of championships in judo sports

A number of judo titles have been won by Groenen. She was the Netherlands’ under-15 national champion in 2007, 2008, and 2009. In the 32 kg weight division, she has won these titles.

She was the runner-up in the 44 kg weight division in 2010. She won the under-17 age group gold medal on March 6, 2010, in Tilburg, Netherlands, and the under-17 age group bronze medal at the 2010 European Championships in Teplice, Czech Republic, in June of the same year. Groenen won the Netherlands junior (under 20 age group) championships in the weight division of 44 kg in February 2011.

9. Her Judo career ended at the age of 17

When Groenen was 17 years old, her judo career came to an end. When she fractured her hip in a judo accident the day before a football game, her employers FCR 2001 Duisburg expressed their displeasure loud and clear. Groenen acknowledged that she liked football and would have finally decided to give up judo.

10. Groenen has studied Law

Groenen was pursuing a law degree at Tilburg University while playing for Chelsea in London, and the team would fly her there for exams. Her older sister Merel once competed for Lierse SK, a women’s football team in Belgium.
