Kenyan models have worked with top brands both locally and internationally. The models have used their platforms as a way of impacting positive changes in society.

1. Ajuma Nasenyana

Ajuma Nasenyana is a 5’10’’ Kenyan born model. had her.

Her first sortie into modelling was in the Miss Tourism Kenya competition in 2003, where she has crowned Miss Nairobi. Thereafter, she had an international break.

This was after her photo taken by Gamma Photo Agency got her an opportunity to be featured in the Ford’s Supermodel World competition.

Ajuma got signed by Lyndsey McIntyre of Surazuri Modelling Agency after the competition since she stood out from all the other contestants.

She is one of the highly celebrated Kenyan models that has worked with famous designers like Carlos Mines and Victoria Secret.

Ajuma has launched a modelling agency called City Models Africa. She has used her platform and completely transformed the lives of many young and potential models.

She has been on the forefront advocating for black beauty in the modelling industry.

The idea that light skin is better than dark skin has been a notion she hopes to disapprove since all tones are beautiful.

She hopes to start her own skincare line that would encourage women to embrace their natural beauty and steer away from skin lightening creams.

As a remedy, Nasanyana has contemplated launching a cosmetic and natural skincare line for women like herself.

She hopes that her products will inspire her contemporaries to love their own appearance instead of attempting to alter it through artificial means, such as by skin bleaching.

2. Cecilia Mwangi

Cecilia Mwangi is another popular Kenyan model.

She was Miss World Kenya 2005 and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Computer technology from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology.

Cecilia does fashion and commercial modelling as well as being an activist.

She was involved in the ant-Jigger campaign in central Kenya as the project ambassador.

Cecilia has also efficaciously led several other charitable events.

As a fashion and commercial model, she is one of the few models in Kenya who kept addressing societal problems as her main agenda.

Her works in creating positive change in the society gained her recognition from the University of Nairobi’s Women Students’ Welfare Association.

Other projects that Cecilia has been involved in include the school for homeless and orphaned kids. This school teaches performing arts and has a music production studio

The other community project she is involved in is at Mukuru Kayaba, a slum in Nairobi. She helps them with self-help projects and educates them on reproductive health.

3. Emma Too

Emma Too is one of the beautiful Kenyan women who hold several significant beauty crowns over her head.

She was Miss World Kenya in 2007 and the Face of Africa finalist. Other than modelling, Emma is also an expert in landscape and interior designs.

Emma had a successful modelling career in the 90s.  she is known for her endless legs and graceful demeanour that made her stand out in all events she attended.

Modelling was never in her mind growing up but people around her saw the potential and urged her to try it.

She dreamt of being an architect because she loved to design spaces and landscaping. Walking on the runway had never crossed her mind.

Emma has had a successful modelling career in Kenya. She got to work with the best and top brands in Kenya.

4. Kevin Oduor

Male modelling is not popular in Kenya and therefore names like Kevin Oduor may not ring a bell to many.

He was the only Kenyan who was among the 46 finalists in the Mr World 2016 pageant.

Kevin emerged fourth during the competition held in the UK. This was his first international appearance as well as being the first international win for a Kenyan male model.

Kevin is also considered to be the most handsome man in Africa. He graduated from Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA).

His modelling career kicked off while he was still a student at university, he is the former Mr CUEA.

Apart from runway modelling, Kevin has also taken part in the 10 Tonne Mr World Challenge that included: The Extreme Challenge, the Multi-Media Award, the Sports Challenge and the Talent Competition

Kevin’s break into the international scene was the first time in many years that Kenya had made it to the Mr World finals.

5. Jared Obuya

Jared rose from being a herd’s boy in Nyanza to being on the runway in the US city of Atlanta, Georgia.

When he left Kenya aged 17, Jared had no idea what awaited him nor had the thought of modelling crossed his mind.

He planned to get to America and get a slice of the American dream. He was scouted in 2011 while dancing with a beautiful girl in a night club.

The photographer later asked him if he would be interested in a photo shoot, and just like that his modelling career took off.

His first signing was a photoshoot for a Los Angeles-based clothing line.

He has also modelled for big names in the fashion industry and hip-hop such as P. Diddy’s Sean John, AKOO Clothing, Jay-Z’s Rocawear, Macy’s and Sears.
