The site is led by a chief Abbot known as a Sayadaw. He died in Mandalay in November 2006. The statue is the third tallest in the world.

Maha Bodhi Tahtaung was founded by Maha Bodhi Tahtaung Sayadaw Ven Narada in 1960. He planted Bo trees throughout his life.

The Bo tress holds significance for Buddhism since it is the tree under which Buddha captured sophistication in Bodha Gaya.

The Monastery was just a small one for the Khatakkan villagers. Sayadaw planted trees on a fifteen-acre with his grandson Nan Oo Sayadaw.

The fifteen acres have been extended to two hundred and fifty acres and have more than nine thousand Bo trees.

The monastery is known around the world for its Bodhi trees attracting tourists to come and see the Buddha statue.

If you are a photographer the best time of day is in the late afternoon and during the sunset. When you reach the statue, start by walking and mesmerizing over the Bodhi trees.

The whole complex is relatively modern and perhaps an overblown, hyperbolic shade of Bagan’s ancient majesty.

The Buddha statue is sitting serenely surrounded by serpents at one end of the long plaza. The Maha is an accurate representation of modern Myanmar’s Buddhism.

At the Aung Sakkya Pagoda, you can catch the waning sun as it drops between the ancillary stupas surrounding the main pagoda.

The first levels are unique because they are decorated with paintings that depict the hell realms in the Buddha teachings.

The painting and teachings remind visitors to avoid negative actions. The statue has thirty-one floors, anyone can access the floors by climbing the stairs there is no elevator.
