There is no greater name in Latin pop music than Luis Miguel. Luis has dominated the music industry with his incredible voice and irresistible charm for nearly 40 years. His talent was evident at a young age, and he has repeatedly demonstrated throughout his career why he deserves to be considered a legend.
Luis has received renewed attention in recent years as a result of the show Luis Miguel: The Series, which is a scripted retelling of his life and journey in the music industry.

He is a self-taught sommelier who has released his own wine label, known as Unico Luis Migue a Cabernet Sauvignon. Luis Miguel is also well-known for his love of fine dining.

You probably already knew that, but did you know they were on the verge of releasing a duet together? According to the New York Daily News, Mariah’s Rainbow album’s After Tonight was supposed to feature Luis Miguel’s vocal styling, but it didn’t. They dated from 1999 to 2001, and Mariah discussed it on Regis and Kathie Lee.
3. Luis Miguel’s mother vanished in 1986
The disappearance of Luis Miguel’s mother, Marcela Basteri, in 1986, was one of the most significant events in his life. Her last contact with anyone was after she boarded a flight to Madrid. According to some sources, Luis Miguel may have given up looking for his mother after a private investigator confirmed that she died in an alleged accident.
His mother nicknamed him El Sol de México (The Sun of Mexico).

During his childhood, his father, who was also his manager, encouraged him to watch and analyze nearly every Elvis Presley movie, recording, and concert performance.
Un Sol, his first album, was released in 1982 by the Mexican branch of EMI Records, earning him his first gold disc at the age of 11. He began touring Latin American countries such as Colombia, Venezuela, Chile, and Argentina two years later. With his single “1+1=Dos Enamorados,” he had a major hit.

Luis Miguel received a Grammy Award at the age of 14 for his duet “Me Gustas Tal Como Eres” (“I Like You Just The Way You Are”) with Sheena Easton. In 1991, the RIAA honored him for the success of his albums Romance and Segundo Romance. Luis Miguel is the only Latin artist to have two Spanish-language albums go platinum in the United States (Romance and Segundo Romance).
6. He closely followed in his parents’ footsteps in the entertainment industry
When it came to Luis, the apple didn’t fall far from the tree. His parents were both artists, and it appears that he was destined to follow in their footsteps. Luis Gallego Sánchez, his father, was a talented singer and songwriter. Marcela Basteri, his mother, was an Italian actress. The amount of longevity Luis has achieved in the music industry is almost unheard of. He was only a teenager when his career really took off.
7. He has been known for cancelling shows due to health issues

He was admitted to hospital for many days in Los Angeles in 2010. There were rumors about a bacterial infection in his lungs following plastic surgery, but no explanation was ever given to the press.
He has cancelled concerts in the last two years, sometimes after only a few minutes on stage. He’s even been sued and fined for breaching his contract. His attorneys recently presented documents to the courts confirming he suffers from tinnitus, a persistent ringing in the ears.
8. Luis Miguel fired his father

He had a strained relationship with his father, who also served as his manager. During the endless rehearsals, his father was very strict and demanding, but his father’s strict discipline has also been credited with playing a large role in his success.
Luis Miguel fired his father in the late 1980s due to financial problems caused by poor representation. His father, a heavy drinker, became depressed after their separation and died on December 9, 1992, in Barcelona, Spain.
9. Luis Miguel has an illegal biography

Although we now know more about Luis Miguel’s life thanks to the Netflix series in which he has appeared, the singer also has an unauthorized biography written in 1994 by Claudia de Icaza. Luis Miguel sued de Icaza over the book and demanded $7 million. However, ‘El Sol’ ended up losing his suit, and the book continues to sell well, especially since the series’ debut in 2018.
10. Luis Miguel is multilingual
One of the singer’s lesser-known fascinating facts is that he has a special fondness for languages. Luis Miguel speaks Spanish, English, Italian, and Portuguese, though he has never agreed to sing a song entirely in English. He learned these languages for fun as a result of his frequent trips to countries where they are spoken. He currently resides in the United States, so it is not uncommon to hear him speak entirely in English.
