She hails from the state of San Francisco, California, in the U.S. She was born to Blanca Estela Aispuro and Ines Cornell Barrera, a cattle rancher and Guzman’s deputy who was later sanctioned by the U.S. Department of Treasury. Emma was raised in La Angostura, a small town in a remote part of Durango.

Each contestant was asked to throw a celebration for her candidacy. Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzmán flew to Canelas to meet Emma because she decided to have him on the Three Kings Day honor. They then decided to get married that day.

3. The federal bureau of investigation led to Emma’s detainment

Emma was detained at Dulles International Airport on February 22 of the year 2021. There was solid proof that Emma was getting messages from Guzman to the Sinaloa cartel regarding helping Guzman escape federal authorities. 

The arrest was made as part of a federal bureau investigation. After his detention, she attempted to plot another escape, but it was unsuccessful due to Guzman’s extradition. In 2015, she used bribes to get him released from the “social readoption center no. 1 Altiplano.”

6. Emma Coronel entered a plea bargain

On June 10th, 2021, Emma was given her plea agreement. Emma waived the indictment and entered a guilty plea to felony criminal information with three counts in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. The United States Attorney for the District of Columbia and Emma agreed to the terms of the plea agreement.

The three accusations included a conspiracy to distribute drugs for illegal importation into the United States, including heroin, cocaine, marijuana, and amphetamines. The second was a scheme to launder temporary instruments, and the third was engaging in transactions and dealings with real estate owned by a designated large overseas narcotics trafficker.

Emma began serving her prison term in February 2022. The schedule will be released on September 13, 2023, and she is now serving at the Carswell federal medical center.
