Carlos was born in Cancun of Quintana Roo state in Mexico. Carlos’s father was an iron welder and his mother was a housewife. Carlos’s father also played as a semi-professional footballer but quit due to injury.
 
His father introduced Carlos to football in the early stages of his life. He enrolled him in local football teams. Carlos’s first football team was called Ko Cha Wolis which meant kicking the ball around. This was where Carlos learned a lot about football and made a lot of improvements according to his coach then.

2. Carlos Vela had to choose either football or basketball

By the age of 12, Carlos was playing both basketball and football at the same time. This caused a lot of tension between his two coaches. Carlos’s father advised him to choose one sport and focus on it. Carlos chose football over basketball.
 
After a while, his father started to worry about the fact that Carlos was not being scouted because of his being in Cancun. But as luck would have it Jose Luis Real of the C.D Guadalajara youth system sent a scout to Cancun in 2001.
 
Carlos caught the eyes of scouts and earned an invitation into a youth tournament with Guadalajara as a small trail with no paid expenses.

His professional career began in 2003 when he joined Guadalajara. During his time there he played alongside his brother Alejandro. He was also a star player scoring five goals hence winning the team’s 2005 FIFA Under 17 World Championship with Mexico.
 
The team owner Jorge Vergara signed him to the team as a result of his impressive performance during the 2005 under 17 FIFA  World Championship. He made a deal with the team as a condition of signing to move his family from Cancun. This was because of a terrible storm that made it very difficult to stay in the area.

4. Vela Carlos attributed  his triumph to his father

It was quite obvious that Carlos had so much affection for his father. When he won the FIFA U-17 World final against Brazil and Mexico he carried the cup and dedicated his Golden Boot to his father. Carlos’s father was also celebrating his birthday the same day his son won the match.

5. He joined Arsenal F.C. in 2005

Carlos worked hard and got a lot of attention from international clubs. He attracted various European clubs but he ended up choosing Arsenal Football Club. He signed with Arsenal F.C. in the year 2005 for a five years contract for 125, 000 pounds which rose to 550,000pounds after he played his 50 first-team games.
 
Due to an English restriction work permit for a non-citizen, he was restricted from playing in England. So he was loaned to other teams like Spanish club Celta Virgo in February 2006 but later returned to Arsenal. 

6. Carlos played in the La Liga league due to a lack of an English work permit

Carlos was again loaned to the Spanish team Segunda division club, Salamanca. This was the season in the year 2006-2007. He had a successful year there contributing a lot to the 53 goals scored and eight of which were scored by him.
 
This made him attract big clubs in La Liga such as Levante, Osasuna, and Almeria. All were interested in taking him after he finished his contract in Salamanca.
 
Since he still didn’t receive his work permit yet, he went to join Osasuna for a year loan contract on 31st October 2007.  He scored his first goal for the team which was praised by several Spanish presses. 

7. Real Sociedad was a dream come true for Carlos Vela

Carlos’s dream of officially playing for the Spanish team Real Sociedad permanently fruited on 17 July 2012. This was after he had played for more than 30 games and scored 12 goals for the team. He was given shirt 11 and played as ring wing, he scored 14 goals and assisted nine goals. 

8. His brother also plays professional soccer 

Carlos was born into a football family. His father was a football player before suffering injury as earlier pointed out. His brother Alejandro Vela plays for the Necaxa club in Mexico. Carlos and his brother also played alongside each other at the Guadalajara club. 

9. Carlos was better than Lionel Messi

Carlos was nominated in 2013 -2014 for the best striker of that season award. He was honored to be nominated with Cristiano Ronaldo and Diego Costa, but Lionel Messi was noticeably missing from the list.
 
This was proof of how talented he was though he had not accomplished much in Europe as of yet. That season he had achieved 37 appearances and 16 goals to his name.
