The Autonomous University of Madrid is a public institution of higher learning that was founded in 1968 under the 5/1968 Decree (Spanish: Decreto-Ley 5/1968) approved by the Spanish Council of Ministers during the Francoist dictatorship. It is the first Spanish institution and the third European university according to the QS Ranking of the World’s Top 50 Universities under 50 years old.

The university has two campuses: the prestigious Faculty of Medicine, close to Madrid’s La Paz Hospital, and the Cantoblanco Campus, the main campus that houses most of the university facilities, located near the cities of Alcobendas, San Sebastián de los Reyes and Tres Cantos, submerged in nature.

Universidad Carlos III de Madrid in Spanish has a strong reputation in business subjects, especially in Economics, for which it is often ranked amongst the Top 50 institutions in the world. The university has a selective admission policy based on the entrance examination. It is known to hold the highest admission grade requirement in Madrid for several degree programs such as Business, Law, Political Science, Economics, International Studies, Accounting, Journalism or Biomedical Engineering.

UC3M, in short, was founded in 1989 under an Act of the Spanish Parliament on 5 May 1989, within the framework of the University Reform Act of 1983. It is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the large town of Getafe. Initially, it was intended to be a fairly small, innovative, public university, providing teaching of the highest quality and focused primarily on research but it surpassed this small vision and ended up being a great university with an exceptional international reputation.

3. Complutense University of Madrid

Universidad Complutense de Madrid in Spanish is a non-profit public research higher education institution that started operations in 1508. It was founded by Cardinal Cisneros as a result of the “inter cetera” Papal Bull granted by Pope Alexander VI on 13th April 1499. This 512 years old higher-education institution is one of the oldest universities in the world and the largest in Spain. In 1785, it became one of the first universities in the world to grant a Doctorate to a female student, Maria Isidra de Guzmán y de la Cerda.

Universidad CEU San Pablo in Spanish is a non-profit private higher education institution founded in 1933 by the Catholic Association of Propagandists (ACdP) as a University College. In 1993, it was transformed to a private university officially accredited by the Ministerio de Educación y Formación Profesional, España (Ministry of Education and Vocational Training, Spain). It is managed and run by Centro de Estudios Universitarios, a foundation for the development of education founded by the ACdP.

Today the university offers an extensive range of courses in areas such as Economics and Business, Communication and Humanities, Architecture, Engineering and Health Science both in English and Spanish.
