Top 10 Interesting Facts about Beck

Bek David Campbell, the son of Canadian arranger, composer, and conductor David Campbell and American visual artist Bibbe Hansen, was born as Beck on July 8, 1970, in Los Angeles, California. He is an American musician, singer, songwriter, and record producer. He gained prominence in the early 1990s with his experimental and lo-fi style and became known for producing audio collages of various genres. He has performed folk, funk, soul, hip-hop, techno, alternative rock, country, and psychedelia. Beck has been hailed by critics and the public throughout his musical career as one of the most idiosyncratically creative musicians of 1990s and 2000s alternative rock, with a pop art collage of musical styles, oblique and ironic lyrics, and postmodern arrangements incorporating samples, drum machines, live instrumentation, and sound effects. In his early years, Beck was a folk artist who alternated between country blues, Delta blues, and more traditional rural folk songs. He started off playing on city buses, frequently performing Mississippi John Hurt covers with his own, occasionally improvised songs. “I’d board the bus and begin singing completely improvised lyrics to Mississippi John Hurt. I would often hear a drunk person ranting at me and calling me Axl Rose. In order to liven things up, I’d start singing about Axl Rose, the levee, bus permits, and strychnine”, he later remembered. He was also a member of the band Youthless, which organized freeform performances in the style of Dada at city coffee houses.
