1. IT IS ONE OF THE THREE GROUNDS ESTABLISHED BY LORDS
Lord’s Cricket Ground is the third of the three grounds established between 1787 and 1814 by Lord. The first ground is known as Lord’s Old Ground, his second ground is called Lord’s Middle Ground and it was abandoned to ease the construction of Regent’s Canal.
The present Lord’s cricket ground is found on the Northwest side of the Middle Ground. The first ground now referred to as Lord’s old ground was where Dorset Square now stands.
2. LORDS HOSTED MATCHES THROUGHOUT DURING WORLD WAR II
During the First World War, Lords were not requisitioned by the military and therefore it hosted matches throughout the war, for the London Counties cricket team. It managed to attract large crowds despite the presence of World War II.
Unfortunately in 1940, a high explosive bomb narrowly missed the Nursery end stands. The Grandstand and the Pavilion were hit by bombs causing serious damage to their roofs.
