The Best Places to Eat Waffles in London

It might come as a surprise to learn that there aren’t that many places in London in which to eat really good waffles.

Sure, many cafes in the city will have a waffle on their menu here and there, but there are very few actual “waffle houses” that take the cuisine to speciality level.

I hunted a handful of them down and tasted the goods. Here is everything you need to know…

Duck & Waffle in London

The waffles aren’t the only great thing about the Duck & Waffle. This is one of the city’s most popular rooftop restaurants, and to make things ever sweeter Duck & Waffle never closes its doors.

This is a 24 hour upmarket dining spot on the 40th floor of the Heron Tower in London central. It’s naturally lit, it’s wonderful modern, and it’s fully enclosed so you’ll never have to deal with the unpredictable outside climate.

The Duck & Waffle serves… duck, and waffles. Or duck on a waffle, which is probably a first for most of you reading this.

The waffles are artisanal and crafted with great skill & care. There are many savory options as well as many sweet ones. As you can imagine, this cuisine goes down fabulously at 3am when the bars start to close and drunk souls needs to fill their desperate tummies ASAP.

Waffle On in London

Just across the Thames, you’ll find a little spot called the Maltby Street Market. There are many street food vendors within the market, and it’s one that has gained much popularity amongst tourists in recent years.

These waffles are classic and tasty, served like read street food on pieces of cardboard for you to eat on the go. Because of the market setting, Waffle On only operate two days a week: Saturdays and Sundays between 11am and 4pm.

They manage to offer both sweet and savory waffle options, with their chicken waffle apparently becoming their best seller. I loved the banana berry waffle. I opted to eat it without cream and to my surprise the waffle itself didn’t miss it, the batter was perfectly moist throughout.

Wafflemeister in London

Mayfair is a renowned hub for fine dining and cuisines from all over the world. The presence of Wafflemeister is very out of place, but the community have welcomed it with open arms and frequent this shop on a regular basis.

This is a ‘treat yourself’ kind of establishment; one where you pop into after dinner as you would a gelato parlor. The waffles are made street food style and served to-go. All of the bases are the same, and it’s the sweet toppings that you’ll have to make decisions about.

I love how perfectly warm and gooey my waffle was; just what I needed on that chilly autumn evening. I kept it simple with strawberries and chocolate, but you can get anything from ice cream to Oreos.

At present, there are two other Wafflemeister branches in London: one in Westfield, and one in Wimbledon.

Bubblewrap Waffle in London

You’ve probably seen them doing the rounds on Instagram and other forms of social media. Bubblewrap waffles are the new foodie craze, and Bubblewrap Waffle is where you can get them in London.

These waffles look a little different to traditional ones. For one, they don’t have the concaved squares that the classic waffle usually exhibits. Instead, these waffles bubble outward; like an edible, oversized bubblewrap!

This makes them hard to eat flat, so instead the waffles are stuffed into a paper cone and filled at the centre. Everything from creams, biscuits, fruits and chocolate can be stuffed inside until almost overflowing.

The real trick is how to get it from cone to mouth, which is something you’ll have to figure out on your own once you’re done posting to Instagram.

Bubblewrap Waffle is currently situated in London’s west end. Expect a queue!

Chi Chi’s Coffee & Waffle House in London

Chi Chi’s is definitely London’s most charming waffle house; you’ll just have to find time to make your way up into Southgate in the far north.

This is a coffee shop and waffle house hybrid. You can eat an array of different style waffles as well as regular coffee shop/cafe dishes.

They do a beautiful breakfast waffle with bacon and eggs, as well as a lunchtime braised pork one that seems to be a hit with the regulars. Their vegetarian savory options are vast and I thoroughly enjoyed the chickpea classic.

Those with a sweet tooth have been generously catered to as well. The flavors and effort put into even the simplest of their dessert waffles is enough to get you right back onto your Instagram to tell the world.

Try the Wimbledon waffle if you’re stumped for choice: it’s a classic Belgian waffle topped with strawberries, blueberries and a homemade strawberry coulis. Mascarpone cheese and shortbread are served alongside.
