1. Anne Boden

She is the founder and chief executive officer of Starling Bank. She founded the bank in 2014 and she intended for it to be an entirely online bank that provides quick and efficient feedback to its customers. Before starting her bank, Anne Biden had garnered experience working for different financial institutions including a graduate trainee at Lloyd Banking Group, Standard Chartered Bank, AON corporation and ABN AMRO

Having founded her bank and being among the few formidable women in banking makes her one of the most powerful bankers in the United Kingdom in that their actions and decisions have an impact on the country’s banking system.

2. Matt Hammerstein

Matt was appointed as the CEO of the Barclays Bank-United Kingdom in 2019. The bank focuses on wealth management, retail banking and business banking. Matt has experience in the banking sector in that he has worked for over 20 years.

Before joining the bank in 2004, he worked for Marakon Associates as a senior management consultant for 12 years. Additionally, he has held various positions in Barclays Bank that including director of the group strategy and the group chief of staff. Furthermore, he advocates for inclusion and well-being in the workplace.

3. Noell Quinn

Quinn is a British banker who is the chief executive officer of HSBC bank. He took this role on an interim basis in 2019 and was officially appointed in March 2020. Before becoming the CEO, he was the chief executive of the bank’s Global Commercial Banking Division in 2015. He then became the managing director in 2016.

He heads one of the biggest financial institutions in the United Kingdom and therefore that makes him one of the most powerful British bankers.

4. Alison Rose

The British banker is the chief executive officer of Natwest Group. He assumed this position in November 2019. She is one of the notable women in banking as she was the first woman to lead a huge lender in the United Kingdom.

Her career in the banking industry in 1992 as a graduate trainee in National Westminster Bank. She was vocal about bringing more women into board-level positions so that they can take part in the decision-making process while working at RBS as the head of commercially and private banking. She was also nominated in 2018 by the treasury to look into the barriers women encounter in business.

5. Nathan Mark Bostock

Nathan is the CEO of Santander UK since September 2014. At the start of his career, he worked with Coopers and Lybrand as an accountant. He then worked for Chase Manhattan Bank from 1988 to 1992 as the head of risk analysis and finance.

Additionally, he worked for RBS from 1993 to 2001 as the head of risk.
Bostock has worked in Santander in several capacities which include the main board director, head of restructuring and risk, chief risk officer and finance director.

6. Charles Alan Nunn

Nunn has been the CEO of Lloyd Banking Group since August 2021. He went to Brookfield Community School and then proceeded to the University of Cambridge where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Economics. He also has a master’s degree from INSEAD.

His career started at Accenture where he worked for 12 years. He then proceeded and joined McKinsey and Company where he served as a senior partner until 2011 when he joined HSBC as the head of global personal banking and wealth management. His experience working for different financial institutions makes him one of the most powerful bankers in the United Kingdom as he has critical insights into the banking industry.

7. Daniel Frumkin

Daniel is the chief executive officer of Metro Bank. Prior to his appointment, he worked for Butterfield Bank as the chief operating officer. In this role, he was in charge of eight jurisdictions around the world that specialized in different types of business and support areas. He also has experience in product risk.

Frumkin is keen on leading the bank to more growth and excellent customer support. Therefore, this makes him a critical part of the banking industry as he is working towards improving the banking industry in the United Kingdom.

8. Nick Slape

He took the role of the chief executive officer of Cooperative Bank-UK in October 2020. He has over 30 years of experience having worked in different financial institutions in the United Kingdom and also out of the country. Some of the positions he has held include strategic planning, financial planning, wealth management and control. Additionally, his recent job was with the Lloyd Banking Group as their chief financial officer- commercial division.

9. Andrew Bailey

Working as the governor of the Bank of England makes him one of the most powerful British bankers. Andrew assumed the role of a governor in December 2019 but he began his term in March 2020. Before his appointment, he was the chief executive officer of the Financial Conduct Authority for three years.

He has also occupied several high-level positions in the banking industry that including the deputy governor of Prudential Regulation Authority, Director of UK Banks and Building Societies, the managing director of the Prudential Business Unit and a voting member of the interim Financial Policy Committee.

10. Dr Bevis Watts

Watts is the chief executive officer of Triodos Bank UK. This is a subsidiary of the Triodos Bank NV. He assumed this role in 2019. Before this, he worked at the bank as the managing director. While in this position, he ensured strong growth for the company which made him an influential person in the United Kingdom’s banking sector.

Additionally, he has over 20 years of experience across public, private and voluntary sectors as he is a chartered environmentalist.
