10 Little Known Facts about Prince William
William, Prince of Wales was born on June 21, 1982, at St Mary’s Hospital, London, England, United Kingdom. He is the heir apparent to the British throne.
He is the big son of King Charles III and Diana, Princess of Wales. His parents divorced in 1996 and his father remarried back in 2005 and his mother died a year after the breakup.
Back on April 29, 2011, he married Catherine in Westminster Abbey, London and they are blessed with children together, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
Like his father, Charles and brother, Harry, he is educated and attended several institutions to study different fields. Some of the institutions he went to include Eton College, University of St Andrews, Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, and Defence Helicopter Flying School among others.
1. He is a Television and Movie Buff
William is fun of movies and loves to watch. He has been the president of the BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts since 2010.
Williams meets actress Olivia Colman during the 2019 BAFTA Awards, Olivia portrayed Prince William’s late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, in Seasons 3 and 4 of Netflix’s known as The Crown.
2. He has a Scar on his Forehead
The prince has a scar on his forehead which is one of the little facts about him. He calls the scar ‘Harry Potter Scar’.
While talking to BBC’s News round he said the reason for calling it that is because sometimes it glows and some people notice it while others never notice it. He got the scar after being hit by a golf club while playing golf with a friend.
3. He was the First Future Heir to the Throne to be Born in a Hospital
William’s mother, Princess Diana broke the ways of royal traditions and changed how a royal woman gave birth forever. She gave birth to prince William in a hospital, Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital.
Diana left a remarkable history to be remembered since her son William became the first future heir to the throne to be born in a hospital. This started a new tradition in the royal family since William and his wife, Kate Middleton followed in the footstep of their mother and gave birth to their three children at the same hospital.
4. He Made a Promise to His Mother
William was the firstborn of Diana, the first wife to King Charles III. However, the couple divorced and their divorce was finalized in 1996. After the divorce, her loyal title was taken away from her.
At this time William was only 14 years old and a future heir to the throne, he was not happy with the fact that her mother’s loyal title was taken away from her hence he made a promise to his mother: “Don’t worry Mummy, I will give it back to you one day when I am king”.
5. He Served as an Air Ambulance Pilot
After his military career, the prince did not stop flying and he worked in emergency services as an air ambulance together with paramedics and doctors to save lives.
He served as a full-time pilot with the East Anglian Air Ambulance for two years. All he wanted was to leave a mark of good deeds on people. While talking to BBC he said it wasn’t easy witnessing the sad and dark moments.
6. His Mother wanted him and his Brother to Obtain Broader Life experience
Diana the Prince of Wales wanted her children to obtain broader life experiences than those which are available to royal children.
She carried them along to different places such as Walt Disney World and McDonald’s, Aids clinics, and shelters for the homeless among others for them to get the full meaning of life.
7. Williams was Educated in Independent Schools like his Father and Brother
King Charles III the son of the late Queen Elizabeth II was the first to break the royal tradition of the heir to the throne to be homeschooled and he joined the actual school.
His sons both William and Harry followed his footstep and they all joined independent schools like him. William started at Jane Mynors’ nursery school and the pre-preparatory Wetherby School which were both in London.
Later he joined Ludgrove School near Wokingham, Berkshire, and during summers Rory Stewart tutored him. At Ludgrove, he participated in football, swimming, basketball and cross-country running among others.
He sat at the entrance exam to Eton College and was admitted where he studied geography, biology, and history of art at A-Level, and obtained an A in geography, a C in biology and a B in history of art.
8. Visited Africa
When William completed his studies at Eton College, he took a year off from education. During this time, he took part in different activities such as British Army training exercises in Belize, worked on English dairy farms, as well as visiting Africa.
William during his visit to Africa had an interest in learning more about African culture and history. This made him teach himself Swahili.
9. He and Princess Catherine Almost Didn’t Make it Down the Aisle
Prince Williams and Princess Catherine’s relationship was full of ups and downs and they almost never got married. The couple met when they were both attending St. Andrew’s University and began dating in 2003.
However, in April 2007, William and Catherine ended their relationship which brought the attention of people. Later the couple was seen together in public on a number of occasions and a source said that they had solved their misunderstanding.
Clarence House, on November 16, 2010, announced that William and Catherine were to marry since the couple had engaged in Kenya in October. And eventually, the wedding took place on April 29, 2011, in Westminster Abbey, London after many ups and downs in a relationship.
10. Many People Attended His Wedding
It is interesting to know that despite people having doubts about their marriage and taking bets on the possibility of Marriage, many people attended their wedding.
The global audience for the wedding was estimated about 300 million while 26 million watched the event live in Britain alone. This is a wide range of numbers making it one of the biggest weddings in the world.
